Modeling Solar Cells.
Researchers at Lancaster University in the UK have developed a program that allows the automatic extraction of parameters from a simple photovoltaic device model based on its current-voltage data. The full description has been published in:
Victor-Tapio Rangel-Kuoppa, “Algorithm Based on the Boolean Integration Rule to Automatically Obtain the Five Solar Cell Parameters Within the One-Diode Solar Cell Model with an Executable Program,” Energies, vol. 19, no. 2, art. 490, January 2026. https://doi.org/10.3390/en19020490
The program uses a calculation algorithm to execute our method, published in 2006, based on the integration of current-voltage characteristics for extracting model parameters of solar cells:
A. Ortiz-Conde, F. J. García-Sánchez, J. Muci, “New method to extract the model parameters of solar cells from the explicit analytic solutions of their illuminated I–V characteristics,” Sol. Energy Mater. Sol. Cells, vol. 90, no. 3, pp. 352-361, February 2006. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.solmat.2005.04.023
This executable program, called “CoCBooles.exe” is easy to use, will be very useful for both researchers and engineers in the field of photovoltaics, and is available free of charge.
It can be found, along with its pseudocode, instructions for use, and explanatory videos, in the folder “energies-19-00490-s001.zip,” which can be downloaded online at the following link:
