Fix Your Fiction
Tackle the Big Picture stuff first.
Tackle the Big Picture stuff first.
Life is busy. Sometimes writing time is short.
Tired of sitting down to work and ending up spending most of your precious writing time staring at the screen? (Or notebook?)
You want to make the most of your time, but your mind is filled with so many possible starting points?
You're frustrated with writer's block, and editor's block, and just wish someone would tell you what comes next?
I've got you. ;)
Fix Your Fiction is the process I've used to not only edit my novels and short stories, but how I "plot and plan" as a tried and true Panster. No guess work, no wondering what you should be focusing on each day. In Fix Your Fiction you get the questions you should be asking, the exercises you should be doing, and the next steps all along the way.
It's time to step up your craft.
Fix Your Fiction is designed to give you my editing and plotting process in quick, easy steps, so they can become your quick and easy habits.
Lesson One: Plot, covers story structure, and how you can use it to your best advantage.
Lesson Two: Characters, covers not only the main character and their arc, but the secondary characters, antagonists, and tertiary characters too!
Lesson Three: Feedback, goes over what to do with all that wonderful feedback you have from beta readers and critique partners -- and what to do when you don't quite agree with something they're saying.
Lesson Four: First Pages, tackles what should be happening in that first chapter in order to hook your readers quick. It also asks the question "To prologue? Or not to prologue?"
Over an hour of instructional video with slides, and a private facebook community where you can meet your fellow writers, ask questions, and make friends!
Bonuses: A 10 page workbook, Beat Sheet, and a 3 Act Structure breakdown.
A plan for each writing session.
A process that gets your story where you want it to be.
Never spend time polishing a sentence that later gets cut from the manuscript.
A story that sings.
You've got it all waiting inside you!
By the end of Fix Your Fiction, you will have a system in place that gets your edits done efficiently, and creatively. No wasted time.
Story Structure in a way that works for the way YOU think.
Character arcs and questions to keep the story moving.
Villains and Antagonists that get in the way -- in a good way.
A method of incorporating feedback from first readers and critique partners.
First pages that keep the reader turning pages, and that make all the appropriate promises.
After spending my childhood writing, it finally dawned on me when I was 18 years old that PEOPLE wrote books. And that I was PEOPLE. Imagine that.
Soon after, I wrote my first original novel while avoiding my undergraduate major, and then discovered that I could get my Masters in Writing!
Once I'd earned my M.A. and M.F.A. in Writing Popular Ficiton from Seton Hill University, I began teaching writing at a local university, and then graduate classes for an online school. Ten years in, motherhood changed the way I saw my career.
Starting these online courses is a dream born of that first teaching chapter of my life. I want to create courses for women who want to expand and learn their craft--but don't necessarily desire the degree (or that debt that often comes with it.)
It is my intention to challenge you, to give you my best tips and tricks and processes so that you can make your books the best they can be, and turn them out into the world with confidence.
And in my community, everything is self-paced, babies are welcome, and we only ever lift each other up.
