What we do

Teach English. For many years before I moved to the United States for my college education, two of my jobs were teaching English and interpreting for Americans and Canadians in Haiti. It has been a privilege for me to be able to teach English and provide interpretation services for many people and organizations in Haiti and my community, including: World Vision, the Mayor’s office, foreign UN police officers in Haiti, and other new, young Haitian interpreters willing to improve their English skills and their knowledge of medical terminology. Many of those I helped with English are now medical doctors, medical students, and/or nurses in the United States, and a few who can make a living in Haiti now. I enjoy teaching and helping others so much that I even worked for my university, Thomas More University in Crestview Hills, Kentucky, as a French tutor. Teaching languages pleases me. I am certain that I can contribute my language skills and business education to my community and to Haiti.

Train professional interpreters. Interpreting for and helping Americans in Haiti is my passion. I spent many years interpreting for various American missions to Haiti including church, twinned parishes, and medical missions. To cite a few, St. Michael’s Parish in Richmond VA, and St. Family Parish in Cerca Carvajal, Haiti, Every Mother Counts, Operation Smile, Haiti Kids, Engineers Without Borders, and most notably Midwives for Haiti. Working as an interpreter and language instructor is how I was able to make a living for myself, and to support my mother in Haiti. I was blessed to be able to receive training in Medical Interpretation in the United States from Bridging the Gap though Inova Loudoun Hospital, in Leesburg, Virginia, for which I volunteered for 2 years before I moved to Florence, Kentucky, where I continued my volunteer service at St. Elizabeth Hospital. I am highly motivated to be able to share my experiences and my education I received at Thomas More University with my Haitian community.

Connect interpreters. My goals are to always be able to help others and make them feel more comfortable, and safer. Therefore, teaching and training young people in my community and connecting them with foreigners in Haiti will not only be a tremendous aid to those Haitians, but also a great help for Americans, Canadians, and other English-speaking persons who travel to Haiti. Professionally-trained Haitians whom I instruct, will serve as better interpreters/translators, orienteers, and guides to many Americans and English speaking people in Haiti both now and in Haiti’s future development. The benefits of this project include:

a) Make a difference in my community,

b) Contribute to the improvement of many lives around Hinche, in particular; and

c) Make work, visits, travel and stay of American, Canadian, and other English-speaking speakers who come to my community more comfortable, enjoyable, and safe
