OpenFNaF is completely open-source, written in C, and licensed under MIT. My end goal, aside from re-implementation, is to allow fan game developers to easily build their own game using my engine, taking elements from the provided sources to learn from.

While aiming to be as true to its source material as possible, co-writer/director Emma Tammi opens up about the major lore changes in the Five Nights at Freddy's movie. Based on Scott Cawthon's mammoth video game franchise, the movie centers on a troubled man hired as a security guard for the dilapidated Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, only to learn of a horrifying secret behind the animatronics that inhabit it. Josh Hutcherson leads the Five Nights at Freddy's ensemble cast alongside Piper Rubio, Elizabeth Lail, Matthew Lillard, Mary Stuart Masterson and Kat Conner Sterling.

Some projects are implemented in ways that the original developer did not intend; for example, for a platform other than which publishers marketed it for. And they're not just limited to game engines either; Webamp is a JavaScript application that reimplements Winamp in the web browser. These projects are almost always open-source which also allows new programmers to fix bugs that could have been difficult to track down during development (alternatively, the bugs may be emulated to allow old mods to continue to safely exploit them). When most of the effort is on programming, the project will usually require the original game's assets (such as files in the installation directory or ROMs) until those ever get remade. This lets the developers claim they aren't infringing the game's copyrights since the player must obtain the original to use it; if the game is still being sold, this could allow the publisher to even earn revenue from the project. This aspect is debatable however, as some source code recreations did result in cease-and-desist letters and even lawsuits from companies such as in the case of re3 and reVC for the 3D-era Grand Theft Auto games, with Take-Two Interactive alleging that the source ports were made to facilitate piracy and that "the work is not licensed in any way"; some have speculated that the suit among others was to keep fan-made mods from getting in the way of their much-maligned Definitive Edition remasters.

This site tries to gather open-source or source-available remakes of great old games in one place. If you think that something is missing from the list - please go to our GitHub repository and create an issue or even a pull request!

A Remake is a game where the executable and sometimes the assets as well are remade open source. Some of these games aren't exact remakes but evolution of original ones, which were eventually open sourced.

A Clone is a game which is very similar to or heavily inspired by a game or series.

An Official project is the official source code release for a game that was formerly closed-source, maintained by the original creators and has minimal changes.

A Similar game is one which has similar gameplay but is not a clone.

A Tool is not a game, but something that assists in playing or modding the game, such as a high resolution patch, or resource extractor.

It might surprise you to learn that there are very many free games that don't fit the modern free-to-play model. I say that because every time somebody posts a link to some impressive, public, open-source game project that minutely recreates some abandoned classic people seem shocked.

Another FNaF Fangame: Open Source, earlier titled Five Nights at Freddy's 2: Open Source, or AFF: OS and FNaF 2: OS, is an unofficial remake of Five Nights at Freddy's 2 by Scott Cawthon, on which Phisnom worked in 2020; he started posting screenshots and gameplay videos in his Twitter account in April. One of the features of the game would be an open source code in GameMaker Studio 2, as one of the purposes was to popularize GameMaker as a better alternative to Clickteam Fusion 2.5. After the release of the Public Beta, the Game Jolt page of the game was taken down by by Scott Cawthon or someone affiliated, and the game was cancelled, and after that Phisnom was invited to the Fazbear Fanverse initiative to remake the original FNaF in his own style. The new game would be called FNaF Plus.

As part of the framework, Microsoft released 5 licenses for general use. Two of them, Microsoft Public License and Microsoft Reciprocal License, have been approved by the Open Source Initiative as open source licenses[4][5] and are regarded by the Free Software Foundation as free software licenses.[6] Other Shared Source licenses are proprietary, and thus allow the copyright holder to retain tighter control over the use of their product.

At the O'Reilly Open Source Convention in July 2007, Bill Hilf, director of Microsoft's work with open source projects, announced that Microsoft had formally submitted Ms-PL and Ms-RL to OSI for approval.[15] It was approved on October 12, 2007 along with the Ms-PL.[10] According to the Free Software Foundation, it is a free software license. However, it is not compatible with the GNU GPL.[6]

This is a version of the Microsoft Public License in which rights are only granted to developers of Microsoft Windows-based software.[18] This license is not open source, as defined by the OSI, because it violates the stipulation that open-source licenses must be technology-neutral.[19]

This is a version of the Microsoft Reciprocal License in which rights are only granted when developing software for a Microsoft Windows platform.[20] Like the Ms-LPL, this license is not open source because it is not technology-neutral.

Two specific Shared Source licenses are interpreted as free software and open source licenses by FSF and OSI. However, OSI president Michael Tiemann considers the phrase "Shared Source" itself to be a marketing term created by Microsoft. He argues that it is "an insurgent term that distracts and dilutes the Open Source message by using similar-sounding terms and offering similar-sounding promises".[21]

Minetest is an adventure, survival, and freestyle creation game loosely based on Minecraft. The difference is that it's open-source and totally free. That basically means that the user base constantly uploads new content. ff782bc1db
