Computer Applications In Business 1

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Computer Applications in Business 1 . Your child will be spending one semester in this class. During this semester he or she will learn how to use a computer in the business world.

We will begin the first nine weeks working on keyboarding skills, with emphasis on proper technique (correct fingering and posture).

We will then build on those skills in our word processing assignments. Students will learn to format reports, letters (personal and business), memorandums, resumes, tables and charts.

The second nine weeks will begin with desktop publishing. Students will be able to show their creativity by making greeting cards, posters, banner, etc. Their major project for the semester will be to create a newspaper on an approved topic of their choice. The semester will culminate with spreadsheets.

We are very excited to announce that in addition to the basic skills, we will be adding a multimedia essentials component to the course. Each student will have the opportunity to earn an ICT (Information Communication Technology) Digital Tool Certification in Multimedia Design and Word Processing by demonstrating proficiency in these areas through an online exam that will be administered at the end of the course.

During the semester the students will be allowed to access the internet for certain assignments, but they must have an Internet Permission form signed by a parent or guardian on file with the school.

We will also work with the academic teachers to coordinate lessons that will enrich the students in the four core subjects.
