I have been running a business as a coach for 7 years. And while the hat I wear as a coach looks very different for each of my clients; some need very little involvement with me, some are engaged in our online accountability group, Fit Balanced Tribe, some show up in our zoom room together and some hire me as a Life Coach for longer periods of one on one coaching. But the one thing that I NEED as a successful coach is to show up for myself FIRST.
And, lately, I feel like I haven't been doing that. Whether it is due to the busyness of the holidays, the stress of the school year and working our way through a pandemic, I have been lacking in CONSISTENTLY doing the things, taking action on habits and showing up the way I KNOW makes ME feel my very best.
Living a healthy lifestyle is truly a collection of habits. Have you heard of habit stacking? Where you consistently do something (hence it is a habit) and then you pair with that habit something you WANT to start doing to create another habit. For example, taking your supplements in the morning. I don't know about you but when my body is feeling OFF I can typically have a look at how consistent I am with my supplements to understand why. So, since drinking water first thing in the morning is a habit for me, I place my supplements right on the counter (yes, those who hate clutter might not love it) so that I am able to habit stack taking my supplements. Have supplements you only take before bed? Place those ones in the bathroom. Brushing your teeth is (hopefully) a habit before crawling into bed and you will see your evening supplements (and for me that is Magnesium Bisglycinate which helps with restless leg syndrome!) and boom, habit stacked.
Other habits that I have stacked include my morning meditation (yes creating a morning routine came first and I can help you START that too) with journaling. I already had the habit of sitting in silence. 5 minutes of just sitting. Breath work, stillness, complete silence. So, I added to it. I take 5-7 minutes each morning to also journal, gratitude practice and set intentions for my day. Am I perfect with it? Nope. Hence this blog post.
I have gotten away from pieces of my routine. And I feel it. I am allowing the negativity that exists in our world right now draw me in. I am doing pieces here and there and I am feeling the negative impact. It's not a place I want to be. So I am sharing with you, as a reminder that I have all of you, those of you still reading, to help hold myself accountable.
