Choose a Sport
Pick a sport that matches your interests – one you’ll enjoy and stick with long term. Team sports like basketball, soccer, baseball or hockey promote camaraderie. Individual sports like tennis, swimming, martial arts or running allow personal progression at your own pace.
Find a League or Group
Join a recreational league, community center or local club. Many have varying competition levels and programs open to all ages and skill levels. This allows you to learn with athletes at the same stage.
Gear Up Properly
Invest in proper attire and protective equipment to stay comfortable and reduce injury risk associated with your sport. Whether it's running shoes, a helmet or padding, don't compromise on safety.
Learn & Practice Skills
Read up on rules for gameplay and guidelines. Watch videos of proper form and technique for that sport. Then practice regularly to engrain muscle memory. Many cities have free public courts, fields and parks to hone your game.
Have Fun!
A positive attitude and enjoying your sport makes for a great experience. As your skills improve, also set new goals to add motivation. But remember, sports are mostly about camaraderie, health and personal progress.
Playing a sport has mental, emotional and social rewards beyond just the physical perks. Step outside your comfort zone and be part of a team!
