This is an all-volunteer program! We rely on parents, grandparents and community members to help make these labs possible.
Each school year, we schedule three labs per grade, plus a special dissection lab for 5th graders.
Labs take place in the classroom with the teacher in attendance. The lab session is supervised by volunteers: one introduces the material, and the others help with the experiments. Most activities are student-led and require minimal supervision.
There is an orientation session before each lab where you can see the experiments and practice them yourself. You can also watch training videos online.
Join the email list for your child's grade to find out when orientations and labs are scheduled.
This is a supplemental program that augments what your child is learning in class.
In grades 3 and 4, we focus on demonstrating and understanding. In grade 5, we focus on scientific reasoning: setting up an experiment properly and analyzing data.
We revisit a few core scientific concepts over the course of the program, and we emphasize that students can make their own discoveries using observation, experimentation, and logic.
