Entlebucher Mountain Dogs

Our Puppy Parents

Meet Bentley, mama to our Entlebucher Mountain Dog puppies! Her lovey loyalness wants to be by your side all the time, she is the perfect 55-60lb size to still crawl in your lap for snuggles, and provides hilarious comedy and an unmatched perky joy for each day of life! She is extremely loyal to and loves her people, if your a stranger it will take her a little while to warm up to you. But entles are not aggressive only reserved and cautious, making great watch dogs as they will certainly alert you with a bark if something new comes around. Known as the laughing dog, its a daily occurrence to see her entertain herself in the backyard with her giggle/herding ball, tossing sticks in the air, and she is obsessed with retrieving balls!

Also meet Emma, Bentley's daughter who has joined our breeding program after passing all her health tests with flying colors. Emma is a sweetheart, she weighs 50lbs, she absolutely loves her ball and doesn't go anywhere without it! She loves following and playing with our kids and just wants to be with you where ever you are.

Our Entle daddies are owned by families local to us.

Breed Characteristics

Being used to labs, we can easily compare Entles to a more well known breed. Entles and labs require similar exercise amounts. They thrive off a good walk each day and a couple games of fetch. They do well with a large yard to run in. Entles rest very well in the house when their owners come inside. Entles can learn to be crated when working or not at home, but they thrive off more time with their owners and less time being locked up, as do labs. Entles will beg for your attention when they desire it but then are content with some alone time other times. Entles are not licky dogs. Entles will obey  property boundaries very well due to their desire to be loyal to their people and their home. Entles will learn commands quickly and love to be quizzed on them. Entles are more likely to test you and "decide" whether to obey your commands so you must be consistent.

Entlebuchers are rare in the USA so most people have never heard of them. They originated from Switzerland and can be considered a herding type dog. However, they have many qualities such as retrieving, nosework (so they can be used in hunting/search and rescue), agility, and are just a great extremely loyal family pet! They are generally a healthy breed and live 11-13 years. Labs naturally love the water; some entles like it and others aren't as fond. Bentley swims with our lab but I'm not thinking it's her first choice activity:) Entles have a beautiful thick soft coat in which we observe tends to shed once a year and very little in between. They are smart so they require you to hold them accountable, teach them good manners, and be the one in charge! Though there are differences in their personalities, a more common family member is the larger long haired Bernese Mountain dog and extra large Swiss Mountain dog, and the even more rare Appenzeller Sennenhund. All four of these dogs have matching beautiful tricolor markings!

OFA/Penn Hip and Genetic Health Testing

For those interested, Bentley and Emma's PRA genetic testing is clear, Penn Hip testing was good, patella exam was clear, and eye exam passed! Among many considerations, we breed focusing on healthy dogs with excellent temperaments who follow breed standards and will excel not only as a family pet but in any capacity you put training and effort into (hunting, show, agility, scent work, ect)!
