Gunner's Morning Starter Dog Treats
Submitted by Kim Thaxton
Ingredients:
2 bananas
⅓ cup. coconut oil
½ cup. peanut butter
rolled oats (to desired texture)
dog bone mold
Directions:
Mash bananas, add coconut oil and peanut butter. Mix well, and add roll oats until the dough is stiff enough to push into a dog bone mold, or mold of your choice. Fill the molds, and bake 350, for 15-16 minutes, or until the bones begin to turn a light brown on the edges. Keep bones refrigerated, and can be kept for up to 2 weeks.
Memories of the Dish:
These dog bones are named after a black Lab, Gunner, we owned, that was a volunteer at Community North Hospital for 3 years, until he started having more severe elbow problems that prevented him from visiting patients. He was born with elbow dysplasia in both of his elbows, but he loved going to the hospital every Monday to volunteer. He helped one child who had been badly bitten by a dog, to once again get to the point that he was willing to pet Gunner. Gunner brought many smiles to many sick people and to nurses who looked forward to his visits. After the Fishers Farmers Market, this is one of our favorites!
