Ecospace is a spatial-temporal dynamic ecosystem model, which in essence provides an Ecosim model for each cell in a rectangular grid representing the ecosystem being modelled.
There are a number of settings in Ecospace that helps define the model run – each will be saved in the current scenario, so possible to have different settings in different scenarios. Examples are:
Model type: choices are: EwE6 multi stanza; IBM or basic PDE. If IBM is chosen, Ecospace will create an Individual Based Model parameterization for the multi stanza groups in the model.
Time step: by default monthly, but any timestep can be used.
Number of threads: the Ecospace module is threaded, i.e. can use multiple processors and run the calculations in parallel.
Group capacity model: the choices are habitat model or environmental response model. Habitat model assigns groups to preferred vs "bad" habitats, while the (recommended) environmental response model distributes based on environmental preference functions. The model choice is flexible to the effect that one or both types can be used for any of the groups in a model. It often work well to use environmental response functions for the ecosystem groups and habitats to limit where fleets can operate
Is advected: check to use advection for group. There is a simple advection model included, but output from other models can also be used (with some complicated setup)
Is migratory: check use use migration for group. Possible to sketch or copy/paste monthly migration maps
The Ecospace model can include numerous types of data, including
Location of fishing ports for calculation of sailing distance and cost
Relative primary production maps
Maps with bathymetry, relative primary production, temperature and other environmental parameters
Groups' preference for environmental conditions, (e.g., from AquaMaps)
