What are First Fridays?
A: First Fridays are a way library media specialists from all over the state can attend quality, focused professional development specifically for library media.
Is it always on the first Friday of the month?
A: Typically, these sessions are held on the first Friday of each month, but the schedule may change based on scheduling conflicts.
What times are First Friday sessions?
A: To accommodate schedules, we have a morning (9:30am) and afternoon (1:00pm) sessions schedule. Sometimes the sessions are repeated but sometimes we offer two different sessions.
What can I expect during a First Friday session?
A: Professional Development for library media specialists. We will give ALSDE information, publicize PL opportunities, and spotlight LM support opportunities. The goal is to provide relevant resources and information to help library media specialists create an effective and innovative library media program.
Are you interested in presenting a session?
A: Click on the "Information Request" link at the top and complete the form to be considered to present a First Friday session.
What is the typical First Friday PD like?
A: A presentation is given via webinar format by sharing their screen. Participants can ask questions in the chat and will have an opportunity for Q&A with the presenter.
How do I register for a First Friday?
A: On the calendar for First Fridays, there will be a PowerSchool number. If you would like to earn hours, you will need to register in PowerSchool. Credit will be given when attendance is verified during the sessions.
Our librarians like to meet as a group, can we all join in virtually together?
A: Yes, you will all receive credit when the attendance verification is completed during the session. It's a great idea to get together with your fellow district librarians for an opportunity for quality professional development focused for library media specialists.
