The Incident Management Assistance Team (IMAT) is a group of specially trained dispatch personnel who can be deployed during complex or large-scale emergency incidents. Their role is to help establish and support a structured command and control system so incidents can be managed safely and efficiently.
One of the primary purposes of IMAT deployment is to relieve the primary dispatcher during major incidents. Large emergencies often create heavy radio traffic, numerous resource requests, and increased coordination demands. If the Communications Center must manage both the major incident and routine district operations at the same time, it can place significant strain on the system.
By handling the incident-specific communications and coordination tasks, IMAT allows the Communications Center to continue normal operations while ensuring the major incident receives the focused management it requires.
Assigned Units
IMAT 1 is intended for deployment at moderate to large scale incidents where extended on-scene communications coordination is needed, but a full command center would be unnecessary.
Field Comm 1 is intended for deployment during large-scale or complex incidents that are expected to extend over a prolonged period of time. It is not designed for routine calls, but rather for major events where sustained on-scene communications support is required.
