Many people think that first class mail and regular mail are the same thing, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, there are a few key differences between the two that you should know before deciding what type of mailing service is right for you: price, speed of delivery, and options for mail forwarding and return.
First Class Mail
First class mail is a great option for sending any type of personalized correspondence, especially invoices and statements that are time sensitive. It also is a good choice for sending merchandise, and other items that are not too bulky or expensive. First class mail is processed on top of the queue so it gets to the customer faster. The downside is that it’s not guaranteed to arrive in three days like priority mail.
Standard Mail
Also known as Marketing Mail, Standard (USPS Marketing) Mail is a good choice for advertising and circulars. This type of mail can qualify for presort rates if you have it NCOA updated and CASS certified. Additionally, you can add on extra services like Certified Mail, Signature Confirmation and Insurance Restricted Delivery plans. Standard Mail will not be forwarded or returned unless a special endorsement is added to it. It will usually get to the customer in under five days locally, and a few weeks nationwide.
