Of course, Nightly does not have the polish, quality and stability of the Release channel as this is a work in progress but we are doing our best through automation, QA and community to provide you the best nightly builds possible.

Don't hesitate to ask experienced Nightly users (staff or employees) to help you file the bug in the #nightly channel on Matrix if you are unsure about the process or if English is not your native language and want to make sure your bug description is understandable.

You don't have to compile anything, just unarchive the tar.bz2 file into your /home or your /opt folder if you want to make it available to all the accounts on your machine and launch the firefox file from your shell. If you decide to install Firefox Nightly outside of your Home, such as in /opt/firefoxnightly, don't forget to give this folder the same rights as your user otherwise it won't auto-update:

The icon of Firefox nightly is missing in the launcher (I have an empty space instead) since month. I did the update of Ubuntu 17.10 to 18.04, but it did not solve anything, the icon is still missing. Nightly is updated...every night, but the icon is never there.

Thanks a lot for your help. However, I did not find any Nightly file in the /usr/share/applications folder.

But I found the nightly.desktop file in ~/.local/share/applications Here is its content, i checked that the file mozicon128.png exists at the right place, so I do not understand whats the problem.

I tried it, however none of the online demos worked even after all that. Trying to create the webGPU interface in the console produced an error as well, just as if I was running normal firefox release.

I then tried the versions from Mozilla's site (stable/beta/dev) which are just archives that can just be uncompressed and ran, and they didn't work with it either. After talking with email support they suggested using "sudo chown -R root:root" on the directory since it needs to be owned by root for it to be able to talk with the app, and it worked for all 3 of those downloaded versions, but as far as I can tell, the system and PPA installed version is located at /usr/lib/firefox and usr/lib/firefox-trunk respectively, and both are already owned by root.

Support got back to me, it ended up that the Nightly PPA did need to be added to a list of approved browsers since the PPA installs itself to run with "firefox-trunk" so it can run side by side with non nightly Firefox builds. Here was the process they sent me:

And I copied the the file `$firefox/browser/icons/mozicon128.png` to `/usr/share/icons/hicolor/128x128/apps/firefox-nightly.png`. However when I search for Firefox Nightly the generic diamond icon is shown, and then next to activities, it says "Firefox" and shows the normal firefox logo.

I'm still getting issues having both Nightly and stable installed though. Having searched for Nightly and clicked the Firefox Nightly icon, the top left of the screen initially says "Firefox Nightly" next to "Activities" with the nightly logo. Then when the web browser window opens up the top-left text switches to saying "Firefox" with the default logo. Any ideas on that?

When I first start Nightly, that says Firefox Nightly and has the nightly logo, then when the browser window actually opens (usually after one or two seconds) it changes to that. For some reason GNOME thinks I'm running stable firefox when I'm running Nightly.

Well, I don't know what causes this. But I could reproduce it.

I have tried to set nightly as default but it has no effect.

Only uninstalling Firefox stable helps but I think that is no solution for you.

There must be addons that are not compatible or hard to configure because of the screen size, YMMV! Here is a recent thread on what Fenix users are looking out for and some compatability reviews: _addons_do_you_most_want_to_see_on_firefox/

I tried a lot of commands to remove firefox, but when I install again, profiles continue on computer, but the problem aren't the profiles, the problem is some rendering problems, I can't see the link I'm surfing and I can't see tabs either.

Hello, it has nothing to do with a build - today's one went smoothly - anyway, firefox always crashes when I'm trying to print - as soon as I hit Ctrl+P or I invoke a menu item. Does anyone know a possible problem or a way out?

A number of language packs are available for Firefox, other than the standard English. Language packs are usually named as firefox-i18n-languagecode (where languagecode can be any language code, such as de, ja, fr, etc.). For a list of available language packs, see firefox-i18n for firefox, firefox-developer-edition-i18n for firefox-developer-edition and firefox-nightly- for firefox-nightlyAUR.

One drawback of the above approach is that it is not applied system-wide. Furthermore, this is not useful as a "pre-configuration", since the profile directory is created after first launch of the browser. You can, however, let firefox create a new profile and, after closing it again, copy the contents of an already created profile folder into it.

Firefox ships with the Twemoji Mozilla font. To use the system emoji font, set font.name-list.emoji to emoji in about:config. Additionally, to prevent the Mozilla font interfering with your system emoji font, change gfx.font_rendering.opentype_svg.enabled to false or remove /usr/lib/firefox/fonts/TwemojiMozilla.ttf (see also pacman#Skip files from being installed to system).

Firefox provides a local service for Chinese users, with a local account totally different from the international one. Firefox installed with the firefox package uses the international account system by default, to change into the Chinese local service, you should install the add-on manager on this page, then you can login with your Chinese account now.

Per -US/kb/firefox-protection-against-fingerprinting,Fingerprinting Protection disables the WebSpeech API. If you enabled this option, you will need to disable it for the narrator to work. To disable fingerprinting protection, set privacy.resistFingerprinting to false in about:config.

In March 2011, Mozilla presented plans to switch to a faster 16-week development cycle, similar to Google Chrome. Ars Technica noted that this new cycle entailed "significant technical and operational challenges" for Mozilla (notably preserving third-party add-on compatibility), but that it would help accelerate Firefox's adoption of new web standards, feature, and performance improvements.[248][249] This plan was implemented in April 2011.[250] The release process was split into four "channels", with major releases trickling down to the next channel every six to eight weeks. For example, the nightly channel would feature a preliminary unstable version of Firefox 6, which would move to the experimental "Aurora" channel after preliminary testing, then to the more stable "beta" channel, before finally reaching the public release channel, with each stage taking around six weeks.[251][248][252] For corporations, Mozilla introduced an Extended Support Release channel, with new versions released every 30 weeks (and supported for 12 more weeks after a new ESR version is released), though Mozilla warned that it would be less secure than the release channel, since security patches would only be backported for high-impact vulnerabilities.[253][254]

Shortly afterwards, the Mozilla Foundation invited Garrity to head up the new visual identity team. The release of Firefox 0.8 in February 2004 saw the introduction of the new branding efforts. Included were new icon designs by silverorange, a group of web developers with a long-standing relationship with Mozilla. The final renderings are by Jon Hicks, who had worked on Camino.[276][277] The logo was later revised and updated, fixing several flaws found when it was enlarged.[278] The animal shown in the logo is a stylized fox, although "firefox" is usually a common name for the red panda. The panda, according to Hicks, "didn't really conjure up the right imagery" and was not widely known.[277] 0852c4b9a8
