WARNING: Major spoilers for Firefly Lane season 2 part 2 aheadThe Firefly Lane season 2, part 2 ending manages to tie up most of its loose ends, but there are a few details that are not immediately clear in the series finale. Based on the novel of the same name by Kristen Hannah, Firefly Lane tells the story of the nearly three-decades-long friendship between Kate Mularkey (Sarah Chalke) and Tully Hart (Katherine Heigl). Though their paths eventually diverge over the years, with Tully focusing on her career and Kate getting married and becoming a stay-at-home mom, the two remain close. However, Firefly Lane season 2 throws a wrench in their story when Kate is diagnosed with breast cancer.

And now, with the final seven episodes only a few weeks away, Netflix has finally released the official season two, part two, trailer. It answers some questions, but also creates plenty of new ones. Watch below:

The first part of Firefly Lane's last season was released on Netflix on December 2, 2022, and ended with a major cliffhanger that left audiences everywhere on the edge of their seats. The show has stayed on the Netflix Top 10 TV Shows list for three weeks since its debut. Continuing to follow the plot of the books it's adapted from, Season 2 Part 1 gave even more insight into Tully Hart (Katherine Heigl) and Kate Mularkey's (Sarah Chalke) 30-year friendship, poking at the growing divide between the two women and unearthing uncomfortable truths. The series flits back and forth between different decades of their lives: their teenage years in the 70s, their twenties in the 80s, and the mid-2000s for their middle-aged years.

Unfortunately, as many knew it would be, season 2 part 2's finale was also the episode in which Kate passes away. The rare and aggressive form of breast cancer appeared to have been treated but we later discover it has spread to her brain and she's unable to get into the treatment program.

Netflix announced on Oct. 3 that the upcoming second season, which consists of 16 episodes, would be the drama's last. Instead of rolling out the final episodes all in one go, like season 1, the streamer will break it up into two parts.

But, what can fans expect in the second part? Netflix has just released a first-look teaser for part two of Firefly Lane season 2, and after watching the sneak peek for the third time in a row, we are already counting down the days to the release.

Ever since part one of Firefly Lane season two premiered on Netflix on December 2, 2022, viewers have been anxiously waiting for the day when the streaming service would finally reveal the official release date for the second part. And now, that day has finally come. Earlier today, Netflix released the first-look teaser for part two. Toward the end of the sneak peek, the platform revealed that the final seven episodes will premiere on (drumroll, please) April 27.

After the first season was released in February 2021, Netflix announced the show would return for a second and final season consisting of 16 episodes, which has been divided into two parts. The first nine episodes were released on December 2.

Netflix has announced that the final seven episodes of season two will be released on April 27, 2023. Like most original shows on the streaming platform, part two will launch in the UK at 8am GMT (12am PT/3am ET).

*Spoilers* The first part of season two ends with Kate crying at Tully's door, after tragically discovering that she has stage 3 breast cancer and needs to start treatment immediately. The life-changing news draws Kate back to her friend, turning up at Tully's apartment. However, Tully has just left for her Antarctica trip to film a documentary, meaning the pair frustratingly miss one another.

But this two-part format actually worked in favor of Firefly Lane as the show could split up and focus on the more serious issues in the second half of the second season instead of focusing on the same old tried-and-tested jokes and tale of broken friendships. With a lot more gravity behind the plot this time, Firefly Lane attempted to do something incredible with the premise of the two friends, Tallulah "Tully" Hart (Katherine Heigl) and Kate Mularkey (Sarah Chalke), and their path to reunion following a piece of heartbreaking news.

But things did not shape up as well as they could have. In essence, this Kristin Hannah adaptation could have been much more than what it ended up being. But the second part of the new season was still arguably one of the strongest segments of the entire series.

This season continues the format but manages to bring in an interesting dynamic. The second part of Firefly Lane Season 2 begins with the aftermath and effects of the brutal friendship breakup, which saw Tully grieving the loss at the other end of the Earth and Kate dealing with the revelation of Stage 3 breast cancer.

Spoilers for Firefly Lane season 2. Despite part 2 including several original plot points not covered in the books, Firefly Lane the series does end with Kate dying from a terminal diagnosis of breast cancer. Showrunner Maggie Friedman opened up to Tudum on choosing to stay faithful to the book's ending.

Tully, who jetted to Antarctica to work on a documentary amid her falling out with Kate during the first part of season two, says in the trailer, "Home hasn't really felt the same since I lost my best friend." 2351a5e196
