This policy explains how FinTracker handles information when you use the Android app. FinTracker is a personal finance tracker that primarily processes your information on your device. The current version does not require an online account, connect to your bank, or send your financial records to servers operated by the developer.
Information used by the app
FinTracker stores information you enter or import, such as expense and income records, savings and asset entries, amounts, dates, descriptions, categories, notes, budgets, goals, and preferences. Imported backups may also contain profile information previously saved in FinTracker.
The app uses this information to maintain your records, calculate summaries, show budgets and insights, and provide backup, restore, export, and reminder features. Entries you place in categories such as healthcare are information you choose to record; FinTracker does not access medical records or health services.
Local storage and app lock
Your records are stored in the app's private storage on your device. You may enable a local username and password and, on supported devices, biometric unlock. This local login does not create an online account.
The app stores a salted password verifier rather than your readable login password. Device-lock configuration is protected using Android Keystore. Android performs biometric authentication; FinTracker does not receive or store your fingerprint images or biometric templates.
App lock restricts access through the app interface. It does not separately encrypt the financial database. Device security, operating-system protections, and keeping your device updated remain important. No storage or security method can guarantee absolute protection.
Backups, exports, and device transfers
You choose whether to create an encrypted FinTracker backup or export a CSV report. Full backups can include financial records, budgets, goals, categories, preferences, and any stored profile information. Local app-lock credentials and biometric keys are excluded from these backups.
Encrypted .fintracker backups use the backup password you provide. Keep this password safe; the developer cannot recover it. CSV reports are readable files and are not encrypted by FinTracker. Older database backup files may also be unencrypted.
You select the destination through Android's file picker. If you choose Google Drive or another cloud document provider, that provider processes the file according to its own terms and privacy policy. The current version does not directly connect to a Google account or schedule its own Google Drive backups.
Depending on your Android device and system settings, Android may separately back up or transfer the app's database and preferences. Android and the applicable backup provider control that process. Device-lock credentials are excluded, so you must configure app lock again on a new device.
Before replacing records during a restore, the app creates an encrypted local safety copy of the current data. This copy remains in the app's private storage until replaced by another safety copy or removed when app data is cleared.
Permissions and external services
Notifications are used for optional reminders. Biometric access supports optional app unlock. Android's document picker gives the app access to files you select for backup, export, or restore; the app does not require access to your entire storage library.
The current app does not include advertising, Firebase Analytics, Firebase Authentication, or Firestore. It does not sell financial information or send app usage analytics to the developer. Links to privacy information, support email, or external destinations open other services, which have their own privacy practices. Google Play and Android may separately process information under their own policies.
If you contact the developer, the developer receives the email address, message, and attachments you choose to send and uses them to respond and handle your request. Avoid sending passwords, backup passwords, or unnecessary financial details. Support correspondence is retained as needed to handle the request and any applicable legal obligations; you may contact us to request its deletion.
Retention and deletion
Local information remains until you delete it, replace it through restore, or clear the app's storage. The Delete Records feature removes transaction and savings entries, including within a selected date range; it retains budgets, goals, preferences, and any separate safety copy.
To remove all local app information, including app-lock settings and the safety copy, use Android Settings to clear FinTracker's app storage. Uninstalling normally removes local app storage, although Android may retain backup copies under its own settings. Previously backed-up data may return if you restore it.
Deleting information from the app does not delete files you exported, shared, or saved locally or in the cloud. Delete those copies separately from their storage locations, including trash or version history where applicable. Manage Android backups through your device or backup-provider settings. The developer cannot access or delete copies stored on your device or in your personal cloud account.
Changes and contact
This policy may be updated when the app's features or data practices change. Updates will be published on this page with a revised effective date. Where required, additional notice or consent will be provided.
