Expansion

$4,800 - Stone and rusted steel.

Organic lines are prevalent throughout nature, bending the rivers and shaping the rock; however, it is human nature to create sharp, angular lines. This piece comments on the linear expansion of modern society, with organic life at its heart. Curved steel runs along the surface of the stone before branching out into geometric forms. It is this geometric structure that in turn holds up the heart of the work. The stone represents the primitive roots of our society that are bound in place by the modern architecture that surrounds.

Hex Nut Hive

$6,800 - Hex nuts and rusted steel.

Award winner 2022.

Bees are an amazing part of Australia’s ecosystem with hundreds of different species helping to pollinate a diversity of plants. Thousands of nuts and bolts have been recycled to create this glowing hive. The bright golden colors emanating from within symbolise life and growth. The intricacy of the structure and its form resemble the organic construction that occurs in nature. The nuts and bolts not only serve as the main structure to the hive, but symbolically remind us about the importance of bees to the fabric of our precious earth.

Chimney

$450 - Rusted steel.

The sculpture titled "Chimney" is a haunting reminder of the challenges faced by a post-apocalyptic society in their efforts to rebuild and understand the fundamentals of science. The rusted, angular metal of the chimney is a testament to the struggles of the inhabitants, who must relearn the basics of optimal airflow in a world ravaged by disaster. The rough, weathered texture of the metal speaks to the harsh environment in which these survivors must live, while the jagged edges and sharp angles convey a sense of danger and uncertainty. Despite the challenges they face, the inhabitants continue to persevere, and the chimney stands as a symbol of their determination and resilience.

Evo-Lut-Ion

$640 - Stone and aluminium.

This series of sculptures follows a surreal evolutionary process that invites the observer to interact. This interaction illuminates the part we all play in the reckless ravish of our environment for our own personal gain. As light is vital to human existence, so too are the resources we use to sustain this luxury.

The penultimate piece of this series highlights the increasing inertia of destructive materialism. The stones of this series slowly evolve, adapting to their environmental threats. Pieces of the earth begin to mimic the light emitted from the predator. This piece in the series attempts to preserve its existence in a crude example of camouflage.

The final piece in the series harnesses the visual adaptation of the stones attempt to stitch its exploited minerals back together, using the light from the threatened environment as its predominant characteristics. The natural rhythm of evolution is to adapt and survive. With the destructive interference, the adaptation results in temporary repair, but is not sustainable at its core...

Rastafarian Dude

$800 - Rusted Steel and chain.

Plumbob

$1,200 - Stone, rusted steel, and chain.

Earth Stone

$5,400 - Painted steel and plaster.

We place immense value on rare stones and diamonds, often shaping and setting them in silver bands to protect them along with the promises they hold. So why do we not protect and value the earth in the same way? Oxidised copper plaster wrap and curved steel have been shaped to present this earth like stone set as jewellery. The green and blue Verdigris pattern contrasts against the copper landscape of the globe, emitting a living quality. This stone, like the earth, never sleeps; once the sun sets, the lights scattered across the surface glow like the cities and streets that scar the surface of our planet. This piece calls into question what we truly value as humans and generates discussion around what can be done to safeguard our planet for future generations to come.

Phosphorescence

$5,500 - Stone and glass.

Generations

$1,200 - Stone, rusted steel, and chain.

The three stone poles are similar to the human posture, and the chain linking them together in a triangular formation is symbolic of the strength of our past, present, and future. The chain links hold the tension-based sculpture together and are visual representations of the connection to our generations. If the balance is thrown off, the sculpture would collapse. The knowledge that is gained from generational stories and past experiences is a vital part of how we move forward into the future. The gravity of this information is shown through the three stone heads as they supply the needed weight to balance the sculpture.

Evo-Lut-Ion

SOLD - Stone and aluminum.

As light is vital to human existence, so too are the resources we use to sustain this luxury.

Part one in the series Vessel of Light focuses on greed. Seething from the stone are rare earth minerals, cradling a warm but destructive light. This vessel manifests our inevitable demise. This mineral rich stone cracks at breaking point, spewing out all that it has to offer - both beautiful and, ultimately, unprofitable.

Mediaeval Shield

SOLD - Rusted steel and oxidised copper.

Crucial Weight

SOLD - Stone, rusted steel, and chain.

Award winner 2020.

The large stone heads symbolise the constant thoughts, memories, and emotions that can make the head seem heavy, but without the 'crucial weight' of the heads, the bodies will come crashing down. The rusted steel chains that are connected down to the earth represent the accompanying importance that staying grounded has to the purpose of balance. These tensegrity sculptures rely on every piece to their structure to remain upright, therefore featuring the importance of balance in life.

Fragility of Fibonacci

SOLD - Stone and rusted steel.

Fragility of Fibonacci brings to light the delicacy of life on this planet. The balancing sculpture is constructed including two Fibonacci sequences, which is the mathematical sequence to natures biological code - it encompasses nearly everything within the earth and the universe. The significance of the three stones represents times and the reality that there is a beginning, middle, and end to our existence. Ultimately, the two crucial aspects of this work balance on one pivotal point - expressing the Fragility of Fibonacci.

Atom FeSiO

SOLD - Stone and rusted steel.

Atoms are a fundamental piece of the universe in which we live. They make up every piece of matter including the elements within this sculpture. Iron bars have been manipulated and curved with stones suspended on each end – bringing balance to the sculpture. Oxidized metal contrasts and compliments the natural stone, and a with low gravitational balance, the sculpture exists in harmony. Three main elements create this sculpture: Iron (Fe), Silicon (Si), Oxygen (O). From a bird’s eye view, this structure resembles the illustration of an atom: the headstone being the nucleus of the atom and the arks curving from the center come to a head as the electrons. This artistic interpretation portrays the balance, cohesion, and interlace of our universe.
