This vesion of Sophie Hatter is inspired by Edwardian fashion trends, circa 1900-1905 and done in collaboration with Sophia Engstrom and Kylie Copeland. Currently a work in progress, we are set to compete in the Sakura Con 2025 Cosplay Competition.
This project has been a very enjoyable process, getting back into the sorts of projects that made me fall in love with historical costuming and sewing to begin with. Something about corsetry and lacy underthings brings me so much joy.
These renderings were done as a final project for a fashion rendering class I took in Fall term of 2024. The class focussesd on drawing of the human form, body proportions, and drawing realistic bodies vs. the standard 9 head croqis. For this final project, I applied the knowledge to creating the popular historical silhouette while also maintaining the shape of a realistic body.
I also did a large chunk of materials sourcing and pattern searching at this time. During this research I found a couple of extant drafting manuals, sourced patterns for most of the garments (the exception being the bodice, which I've drafted myself) and based these renderings on the patterns I found.
