Overview
High-speed Dust Collection Vehicle for Tunnel Environment
Previous management relied on diesel or water-spraying vehicles
Low-speed (10–15 km/hr), night-only operation
New vehicle achieves 99% efficiency at 40–70 km/hr
Enables daytime operation with reduced passenger exposure to fine dust
Core Competencies
Purpose
To develop Eco2Crete, a cement-replacement eco-friendly concrete, for RC sleepers in order to reduce CO₂ emissions and enhance sustainability.
Powered by pantographs, eliminating diesel exhaust pollution and avoiding long charging times (battery models: 16-hour charge, 4-hour use).
Designed to match passenger train loads (30 tons); operates at similar speeds (up to 70 km/hr).
Minimizes fan energy use by utilizing aerodynamic forces generated during high-speed operation.
High-speed performance enables up to 320 km daily working range (40 km/hr × 8 hr).
Expected Benefits
Source-level Collection
– Operates close to in-tunnel dust sources, removing airborne particles before passengers and staff inhale them.
Effective Air Quality Management
– Provides more efficient subway air quality control compared to previous technologies.
Passenger Comfort
– Reduces dust spread into platforms and train cabins, improving comfort and minimizing complaints.
Certifications
Currently, in 2025, this dust collection vehicle is set to undergo a pilot test on an operational line. Required certifications will be pursued after the completion of the pilot test.
TRL 7
During its development period(’19~’23), this dust collection vehicle had been demonstrated and promoted multiple times to key domestic organizations like the Korea National Railway, KORAIL, and Seoul Metro.
As of 2025, discussions are underway with the Ministry of Environment, SR Co., Ltd, and Seoul Metro regarding a pilot test for this dust collection vehicle. One trainset will be manufactured and deployed on a pilot line to verify its dust collection effectiveness.
