The Garnier Opera House, or Garnier Palace, is a national theater which aims to be an academy of music, choreography and lyric poetry. It is a major element of the heritage of the 9th borough of Paris. It is located at Place de l'Opéra, at the north end of the Avenue de l'Opéra, in Paris, the capital of France. It's mission is to implement the representation of lyrical or ballet shows, of high artistic quality.
This Opera was designed by the architect Charles Garnier. Selected following a competition, his construction, decided by Napoleon III, in the framework of the transformations of Paris, carried out by the prefect Haussmann and interrupted by the war of 1870, was resumed at the beginning of the Third Republic. After the destruction by fire of the opera Le Peletier in 1873, the building was inaugurated on January 5, 1875 by President Mac Mahon under the Third Republic. The Garnier Opera house has been classified as a historic monument since October 16, 1923.
The ceiling of the Opera is very famous and incredible. It was repainted in 1964 by Marc Chagal. It was not done on the old one which was painted in 1872 by Jules-Eugène Lenepveu because the last one is superimposed on the old one so we can remove the ceiling painted by Chagall to admire the one made by Lenepveu.
Poetry by François Jouffroy.
Music instrumental by Eugène Guillaume.
Danse by Paul Belmondo
Lyric drama by Jean-Joseph Perraud.
