A Message from Duckie's Human Regarding Duckie's GoFundMe Page:
I created this GoFundMe for Duckie's cause from the recommendations of some of Duckie's followers. I made a promise to myself & Duckie when this started that no matter the outcome (although I hope & pray everyday it’s one that ends with Duckie home safe with me), something positive would come of the tragedy of Duckie going missing.
Imagine if there was something in the form of a microchip (or maybe a leg band for birds) that had actual GPS features? Something easily accessible to most or all economic groups, veterinarians, animal rescue organizations, etc. Imagine if there was an organization funded & dedicated to finding lost exotic animals like Duckie, not just dogs and cats (as all animals are important)?
That is the future that I want to work toward to help lost pets like Duckie return home safe regardless of the circumstances of how they went missing.
The overall purpose of this GoFundMe would be to help fund additional costs associated to trying to locate and rescue Duckie (like hiring search & rescue trail cam/humane trap companies), look into possible solutions to help easier track down future lost parrots and other animals, help create solutions to allow parrots more freedom in captivity without risk of becoming lost and also creating a fund/organization dedicated to helping people with lost/missing domestic & exotic animals (like parrots) like me and Duckie in the future. Whether this would be created as a separate organization or donated (with proof ether way) to an existing animal rescue organization that deals with exotics is TBD.
Printing flyers, constantly driving to and from MA to ME, looking to hire a Trail Cam company to assist in the search, etc is definitely costly for someone who is heavily involved with rescued animals (specifically other rescue parrots in general). Duckie does have her own veterinary medical insurance and an $800 REWARD I'm funding myself for her safe return.
Any donation is appreciated and is in no way required. Just simply sharing Duckie's posts is more than I could ever ask for. Thank you for all of your endless love and support for Duckie.
Love Duckie's Heartbroken & Devastated Human,
Sabrina
Seacoast Online Article About Duckie:
New Center Maine's Feature on Duckie:
Name: Duckie
Age: Approx. 4 years old (she's a rescue)
Sex: DNA tested Female
Species: Jenday Conure
Coloring: Orange Body, Green wings and tail, yellow feathers dusted on the top of her wings, black beak, white pigment around her eyes.
What She Sounds Like: She can mimic the sounds of other birds, but mostly sounds like any other Sun or Jenday Conure.
Examples of What Duckie Sounds Like:

https://youtu.be/tICmacTSyEc?si=rjtupC8bp-u740Np (entire video is helpful)
Personality: Loves people, will land on shoulders and heads. Loves to cuddle under your chin and up against your neck. Does not bite but will be vocal if she doesn’t like something (typical jenday/sun conure dramatic vibe haha). Loves light head scratches. VERY food motivated. She is usually fearless as she loves going on adventures & experiencing life to the fullest.
How She Feels About Other Animals: She loves other birds/parrots, she lives with 2 green cheek conures (Zazu & Maui are her bffs), 2 Indian Ringnecks and a Senegal. She has also been around Amazons, Quakers, Budgies, Canaries & Cockatoos. She also lives with a German Shepard/Collie X Dog named Blue, a Tuxedo DSH cat named Nugget, and 3 rescue ferrets (housed completely separate from the parrots) Noodle, Rigatoni & Fettuccine.
Favorite Treat Foods: Sunflower Seeds, Safflower Seeds, Plain Walnuts, Plain Almonds, Plain Steamed Corn, Nutriberries, Dried Fruit (Parrot treat versions), Millet (on the stick can be seen easier)
Fears: She HATES towels and blankets or any large objects so those will make her fly away. Try to go slow and be as unintimidating as possible.
Commands Duckie Knows: Step Up, Bedtime, Cuddles, Want Some Food?, Want a Treat?, Time to Go Home
Names She Responds to: Duckie, Duck-Duck, Duckie Girl, Duckster, Duckie-Doo, BabyGirl, Sweet Girl, LoveBug, Sweet Girl, Queen Duckie
Other Important Notes:
Duckie is FULLY FLIGHTED, but has been free flight trained and station trained and goes on outdoor adventures very frequently which is why this incident is so devastating as this is completely out of character for her- she’s a Velcro bird and prefers to be on me or my boyfriend who were both present at the time of the incident.
She is also on a very expensive diet and supplements due to underlying medical conditions and sees a board certified avian vet regularly. She even has her own veterinary medical insurance. So the sooner we can bring her home the better
The Incident:
Duckie got spooked by some unknown trigger & escaped her flight harness and got away from her backpack carrier and then took off flying over the houses along Marginal Way.
Last Known Location:
She was last seen flying over the ocean along Marginal Way in Ogunquit, Maine toward the Ogunquit Beach at 3:00pm EST on Saturday 07/06/2024.
Possible Locations:
She could be in the brush along the beach, hiding in the rocks along the coast, on someone’s roof, on a hotel or residential balcony, high up in a tree or low on the ground in the bushes/grass. She could also be deeper into the residential areas of Maine. She is being reported to love raiding bird feeders. Please check your backyards and decks/balconies.
POSSIBLE SIGHTINGS Saturday 7/6/24 in Portland, Maine of a man finding her and holding her outside of the Trader Joe’s in Portland saying “he found a bird”. The story has been confirmed by both a witness (who said the bird looked just like Duckie) and the Trader Joe’s employees confirmed the story and the timeline. I hope it’s Duckie! I have DNA on file for her to match if need be. Please share and contact Portland PD or Ogunquit PD with any information.
Latest sightings have been in Wells, Maine near Pine Ledge Drive & Ridge Top Lane in Wells, Maine.
If Duckie is spotted please immediately call:
Sabrina @ +1 (617) 221-6288 (call or txt)
and/or
your local police police department.
The best way to catch her would be to lure her with food and keep her occupied until I can get to her or if you can get her to “step up” on your hand to bring her inside somewhere that’s enclosed.
There is an $800 REWARD for anyone who finds and returns Duckie.
Thank you all for spreading the word and helping. Please share if you can.
Below is a message from Duckie’s human to everyone following Duckie’s story to answer some questions and respond to some comments.
I just wanted to thank all the kind souls who are commenting their support and well wishes and some who are going above and beyond to help find, locate and return Duckie.
I am eternally grateful and in awe of your kindness. I also wanted to thank every single commenter who shares/likes/comments on any post related to Duckie as it increases engagement and makes it so more people see/hear Duckie’s story and increases the likelihood of her being returned home safe.
To anyone saying mean, nasty or unkind things, just know you’re saying them to Duckie’s family who is already heartbroken, devastated and trying their hardest not to break and remain hopeful/positive and your mean comment is just hurting them more.
There was no attention seeking, just a girl who loves her parrot and her parrot who loves coming everywhere with her on adventures and experiencing life to the fullest way a parrot in captivity can since being rescued. Duckie has gone on hundreds of adventures with me and is/was/always will be an ambassador for Adopt Dont Shop when it comes to having parrots (and any animal) as pets and that No Cage is Big Enough which is Foster Parrots motto.
She was fully flighted, and wing clipping is a personal choice for each parrot owner, and is done for numerous reasons, each one valid, and it’s never my place to tell someone what to do to their own parrot. Duckie was fully flighted to be able to exercise/fly in a secure environment like my home and to fly away from danger to the best of her ability which I hope she’s using now. Even birds who are clipped can still fly and wing clipping should never be used as the only thing to prevent a bird from flying away.
She was wearing a harness and a leash, which she was chewing & despised but wore as a precaution, and had a backpack carrier.
Sometimes she took photos while being in a station training command with treats or I edited out her harness so that you could see her in all her natural beauty, especially for her Lost Bird photos as I wanted you to see what she would look like if you saw her right now as she isn’t dragging her harness or leash. To put it plainly, the pictures you see of Duckie where no harness is seen have absolutely nothing to do with her flying away/being spooked that day. To see pictures and videos of her with her harness on, you can go check out her profile.
She got spooked and flew off at the end of our trip during the transition to go home. She was also free flight and station trained as a backup but sometimes no amount of training or preparation can prevent tragic accidents from happening and playing the what-if game isn’t helpful to the goal of getting her home safe.
The only productive thing I can do now is to spread the word, endlessly search for her and hope she finds me or a kind soul that will help bring her home to me and the rest of her rescue bird family.
No one, despite any and all precautions you can take, thinks tragic and heartbreaking things will happen to them.
Regardless of the outcome, which I hope/pray/am begging ends with Duckie home safe, I’m determined to make something positive come out of this and use it to create some kind of positive change to help prevent something like this in the future and/or help someone in a similar situation going forward.
Thank you all for your support for Duckie and your compassion during this heartbreaking and devastating time.
If you have any real leads/sightings about Duckie or find her, please call or txt me at 617-221-6288 or message me on Facebook as I am not always able to look/see all the comments on all of Duckie’s posts.
Please continue to share and be on the lookout for Duckie
