Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis is a mobile game. Planned to be released in monthly episodic installments, the game retells events from the 1997 video game Final Fantasy VII, and all canon titles in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII media franchise, including the film Advent Children and the video games Before Crisis, Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus.[2][3] The game also features an original storyline focusing on three new characters, Glenn, Matt, and Lucia, that expands on the backstory of The First Soldier and on Sephiroth's past. The game borrows several presentational elements from Final Fantasy VII Remake and Crisis Core Reunion. Chapters can be freely selected from a timeline, allowing players to jump between different entries in the series. The battle system draws from the original game's Active Time Battle system.[4] The title is free to play, but offers loot boxes that include random selections of weapons and costumes.[5]

The other substantive option, which I imagine has the most strategic depth, is co-op. As of writing, teams can link up to take down three different bosses at several different difficulty levels, with a limited-time event boss also joining the mix as of writing. Given the way the battle system works, you could theoretically coordinate some neat strategies here. In single player, you must automate two party members even with manual play turned on. Co-op technically lays the foundation to let players work together as dedicated attackers, healers, stat buffers, etc.

Earlier today on August 31, Square Enix revealed the latest trailer for Ever Crisis, the compilation mobile game connecting the events of Final Fantasy 7 and Ever Crisis into one seamless game. However, the mobile game will also feature a brand new storyline focusing on a younger Sephiroth, taking place 15 years before the events of the original Final Fantasy 7.

The combat score can be increased by upgrading weapons and equipping higher rarity items. However, you will likely pull on the gacha to acquire better weapons and dupes. Otherwise, you will spend stamina during Solo Content missions to obtain level-up materials.

In the caverns, Sephiroth orders that they eliminate every Rhadoran. Glenn protests, wanting to spare children and the elderly, but Sephiroth warns him that children, much like Sephiroth himself, could be trained as soldiers, and that the elderly could be seasoned veterans with decades of combat experience.

In the course of Sephiroth's training, he learned that a good SOLDIER needs to be strong in body, mind, and heart. and that a hardened heart, ruthless and devoid of hesitation, is a sign of strength. When he tells Glenn as much, Glenn responds by pulling Sephiroth into a hug. Glenn apologizes for calling Sephiroth a cyborg, and Sephiroth admits that he never wanted to be one.

This game features examples of: Art Shift: Characters in the overworld are depicted as Super-Deformed-esque while combat depicts characters using their Remake designs, reflecting how characters in the original VII looked slightly more realistic in battle. Adaptation Expansion: This game's version of Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier takes the concept of the game and expands it greatly into a full-fledged plotline, starring a SOLDIER named Glenn and focusing heavily on Sephiroth's origin story. And Your Reward Is Clothes: The "25th Anniversary Celebration Trailer" shows off a glimpse of some of the costumes you can get for your characters, including samurai armor for Cloud, modern street clothes for Tifa, and a wedding gown for Aerith. Character Select Forcing: There's no real way to avoid training up Zack and to a lesser extent Cloud. Zack is the only playable character in the retelling of Crisis Core, meaning he needs to be strong enough to handle threats singlehandedly, while Cloud is present for pretty much all battles in the retelling of the original game and will thus be carrying his teammates through most problems. In contrast, the First Soldier trio faces most of their battles together while Cloud's allies come in and out of his party as the story demands it. Combatant Cooldown System: A version of the Active Time Battle system is used for combat, resembling its function in Remake. Characters fight automatically while the ATB gauge over their abilities fills up over time. ATB gauge segments can be spent to cast powerful moves, such as attacks or magic. Compressed Adaptation: Some scenes are shortened for brevity, removing otherwise pointless additional screens that were present merely to pad out random encounters or automating certain sections such as the Escape Sequence in Mako Reactor 1. Some less important parts such as most of the return trip to Seventh Heaven are cut entirely and shortened to a brief summary. As a result, some dialogue is shifted around to keep it contextually relevant. Equipment-Hiding Fashion: The game allows you to set skins for your character's armor and weapon, which acts independently of whatever equipment they're actually using, allowing players to set a favourite new look or weapon or invoke No Cutscene Inventory Inertia deliberately. Freudian Trio: The First Soldier trio. Glenn is the Hot-Blooded and impulsive Id, Matt is the stoic and logical Superego, and Lucia is the balanced Ego. Loot Boxes: Ever Crisis features a gacha for weapons and armor, similar to Final Fantasy Record Keeper and Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia. Magic Countdown: The Escape Sequence in VII is shortened to a cutscene of Cloud and the party escaping. They manage to make it outside right when the timer hits 0:00. Video Game Remake: At its core, it is another remake of Final Fantasy VII. In a twist, however, later games are adapted for Ever Crisis, giving them a Retraux visual treatment similar to the original VII. Wake-Up Call Boss: The story battle with Ifrit in the retelling of Crisis Core. You're forced to face him in single combat with only Zack, and his damage output is high enough that if you've just been blindly tapping your way through the game, you're going to be made into thin gruel. Ifrit is the slap in the face that makes sure you've been truly paying attention to how the game works.

The battle themselves cleverly use assets from the 2020 remake, which results in the game looking very impressive in motion. Outside of boss encounters, most of the enemy fodder in the game can be bested simply by using the auto-battle command in the game. Still, thankfully, tougher encounters do require a bit of brain power to tackle successfully.

Players can switch between a defensive or offensive stance, which is imperative when dealing with heavier attacks and knowing when to change. Managing characters and ensuring everyone is healed is similar to playing an actual full-fat Final Fantasy game and helps sell the experience.
