Only thing I changed was to upload in ASCII, bit is was still hit or miss as to if it uploaded g-code, as it updates the file on the p1p, but filezilla still whines about being disconnected a couple of times before it works.

I had same trouble. After doing some analysis of FileZilla logs (debug logs can be enabled by setting the debug level = 3 in Edit > Preferences > Debug), I noticed that is was printing line filezilla Trying Pageant key # for each unsuccessful attempt to authenticate to server.
