If you want a premium, over-ear experience with natural tonal balance and passive noise isolation for long listening sessions, choose FiiO FT13; if you need high-resolution detail retrieval, portability, and a planar magnetic signature specifically optimized for streaming on mobile devices, choose Letshuoer S12. Both options deliver exceptional audio fidelity, but they serve fundamentally different use cases. The choice between these two pieces of gear ultimately comes down to whether your priority is immersive comfort and acoustic engineering in a closed-back design or the sheer technical resolution and convenience of an ultra-lightweight in-ear monitor.
• FiiO FT13: Its biggest strength is the unique Purpleheart wood housing and wool-composite diaphragm that create a warm, smooth sound with excellent passive noise isolation (-26dB). Its trade-off is the significant weight (0.9 kg) and over-ear form factor, which makes it less ideal for active movement or travel. This pick is for the audiophile who sits down to stream music and values acoustic purity over portability.
• Letshuoer S12: Its biggest strength is the 14.8mm planar magnetic driver that offers superior high-frequency extension and micro-detail retrieval, paired with a versatile 3.5mm/4.4mm plug system and included DAC cable for seamless mobile streaming. Its trade-off is the lack of passive noise cancellation and the tight seal required for proper bass response. This pick is for the listener who needs the best open, detailed sound while commuting or working on the go.
The FiiO FT13 is built for the listener who treats music as a dedicated event rather than background noise. At its core lies a 60mm dynamic driver featuring a W-shaped diaphragm made from European birch pulp, carbon fiber, and dyed wool fibers. This specific material blend is engineered to reduce resonance while maintaining tonal balance, resulting in a sound signature that feels emotionally rich and naturally smooth. The enclosure itself is crafted from South American Purpleheart wood, a material selected not just for its striking grain but for its exceptional hardness, which dampens unwanted vibrations and speeds up the driver's response time.

This headphone is designed for extended listening sessions, which is why comfort plays such a massive role in its architecture. It features an adjustable magnesium-aluminum alloy headband and includes two distinct types of earpads: sheepskin leather and suede. The inclusion of a soft, breathable sheepskin headband helps mitigate heat buildup, a common issue with heavy closed-back headphones during marathon streaming sessions. With -26dB of passive noise isolation, the FT13 creates a quiet sanctuary, allowing you to focus entirely on the music without external distractions.
However, this level of acoustic engineering comes with physical demands. Weighing in at 0.9 kg, the FT13 is a substantial piece of equipment compared to typical in-ear monitors. It is strictly an over-ear design, meaning it covers your ears completely. While this provides the necessary isolation, it also limits mobility. If you are looking for a headphone to wear while walking around the house, commuting on a train, or engaging in any activity where a bulky headset might be cumbersome, the FT13 is likely too heavy and restrictive. It is best suited for a stationary setup where you can sit back, relax, and appreciate the nuances of the purpleheart wood construction and the complex interplay of the wool and wood fiber diaphragm.
The Letshuoer S12 Ultra is engineered for the listener who prioritizes technical performance and versatility above all else. Unlike the large dynamic drivers found in over-ear models, the S12 utilizes a 14.8mm planar magnetic driver. This technology is renowned for its ability to handle complex musical passages with precision, offering superior high-frequency extension and consistency. The result is a soundstage that feels airy and detailed, where micro-details in a recording become audible even in busy tracks. For someone streaming high-resolution audio files, this driver evolution ensures that the source material is reproduced with minimal coloration and maximum clarity.
Portability and connectivity are central to the S12's value proposition. It features a detachable 2-pin connector system paired with a 392-core silver-plated copper cable. This high core count is designed to minimize signal loss and interference, ensuring that the pristine audio from your source reaches your ears without degradation. What sets it apart for modern streaming habits is the dual-plug solution. It comes ready with both 3.5mm and 4.4mm balanced connectors, but more importantly, it includes a DT01 Pro 3.5mm to Type-C DAC amplifier cable. This means you can connect directly to a smartphone or laptop via USB-C without needing a separate dongle, removing barriers to entry for high-fidelity listening on mobile devices.
The trade-off for this level of technical refinement is the form factor and lack of isolation. As an in-ear monitor, the S12 relies entirely on a proper seal within the ear canal to function correctly. Without a perfect fit, the bass response will suffer, and the sound stage will collapse. Furthermore, it offers no passive noise cancellation. In a noisy environment like a busy street or a loud office, the S12 will let outside sounds in, requiring you to rely solely on the volume to drown out the world. It is an excellent choice for musicians, critical listeners, and commuters who want to carry their high-end audio rig in their pocket, provided they don't mind managing the fit and accepting that the world around them remains audible.
• Best for passive noise isolation → FiiO FT13 (With -26dB isolation, it blocks out the world better than any in-ear option).
• Best for mobile streaming without extra adapters → Letshuoer S12 (Includes the DT01 Pro DAC cable for direct Type-C connection).
• Best for long-term comfort in a chair → FiiO FT13 (Breathable sheepskin headband and plush earpads are designed for hours of stillness).
• Best for technical detail and speed → Letshuoer S12 (Planar magnetic drivers excel at fast transients and high-frequency clarity).
• Best for portability and travel → Letshuoer S12 (In-ear form factor fits anywhere; FiiO FT13 is too heavy and bulky for frequent movement).
• Best for unique aesthetic and build quality → FiiO FT13 (Purpleheart wood housing and CNC finishing offer a tactile luxury experience).
• Best for balanced connectivity → Letshuoer S12 (Supports both 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced outputs natively).
• Best for warm, natural tonality → FiiO FT13 (Wool and wood fiber diaphragm creates a smoother, less fatiguing sound profile).
After analyzing the specifications and intended designs of both products, I would personally choose the Letshuoer S12 if my primary goal is finding the best headphone for streaming across various devices. The inclusion of the DT01 Pro DAC cable and the planar magnetic driver's ability to resolve micro-details make it the superior tool for modern, on-the-go listening. While the FiiO FT13 is a masterpiece of acoustic engineering with its wood housing and isolation, the Letshuoer S12 offers a more versatile solution that bridges the gap between high-fidelity audio and the practicalities of daily life. For anyone seeking an in ear headphones for streaming that delivers professional-grade sound without the bulk of over-ear cans, the S12 is the clear winner in this comparison.
Only the FiiO FT13 offers passive noise cancellation with -26dB isolation due to its closed-back over-ear design. The Letshuoer S12 does not block external noise and requires a tight seal for proper sound.
The Letshuoer S12 is better suited for smartphones because it includes a DT01 Pro 3.5mm to Type-C DAC amplifier cable, allowing direct connection without extra dongles. The FiiO FT13 uses a standard 3.5mm jack and is heavier for portable use.
Yes, the Letshuoer S12 features interchangeable 3.5mm and 4.4mm plugs and a detachable 2-pin cable. The FiiO FT13 comes with a Furukawa hybrid cable that has multiple plug options included in the package for device compatibility.
Yes, the Letshuoer S12 is an in-ear monitor and is extremely lightweight compared to the FiiO FT13, which weighs 0.9 kg. The FT13's weight is due to its large 60mm drivers and solid wood construction.
