It started in 1968 and included San Francisco State University and UC Berkeley. The root of the strikes began because of the lack of education and importunacy there was for ethnic studies, cultural and awareness.
The uprising of the strikes was because students wanted from their schools to be educated on ethnic studies and knowledge about their history. Their demand went unheard and unrecognized, there was no consideration of what the students were asking for and as time went on the tension rose and led to the first strike on November 6th, 1968.
This marks the day the strikes ended officially. It lasted for around 5 months and there was lots of participation from a high quantity of students and even other citizens. The strikes led to a lot of attention around the world and support. It led to the creation of The College of Ethnic Studies, first at SFSU. Their fight was deeper and more successful because it was gong to change the future of all students.

She was a teacher that helped all kinds of people become activist and encourage them to fight for their rights. She was dedicated to fighting for equality and justice for everyone. She worked on talking about different cultures and their stories to be passed on and learned about.
Ethnic studies is important because it teaches students about their own culture, history, challenges and about other differences. It is helpful for students to know about these studies because it shows the important of each and every different race. It allows people to learn more and be proud of their background and be educated in what their people have experienced.
