The COVID-19 pandemic brought real challenges in the everyday lives of people around the world. Challenges that resulted to the shift from our accustomed way of living to the new normal setting. It is undeniable that a lot of sectors are affected and one of which is the educational sector. Since the widespread of the global pandemic, schools and universities all over the world begin to shift from face-to-face mode of teaching and learning to distance learning. Schools are now engaged with virtual learning. The massive effect of the pandemic can be clearly seen and anchored on the theme of the concluded university wide orientation of Pangasinan State University for Field Study courses with the theme “Student Immersion in the New Climate, Culture and Environment: The Demand of the New Normal”. The said orientation happened last September 27, 2021 where field study students from different Pangasinan State University campuses joined and participated via Zoom and Facebook live.
In the orientation, the Pangasinan State University Quality Policy was presented by Ms. Mary Anne Kimper V. Cabueno, the Practice Teaching Coordinator of PSU San Carlos. Meanwhile, Mr. Louie C Casaclang, the Practice Teaching Coordinator of PSU Asingan, presented the participants from their respective campuses. After that, Dr. Manolito C. Manuel, Vice-President for Academic and Students Affairs, delivered his heartfelt welcome address. The event proceeded by presenting the program overview where Dr. Razeale G. Resultay tackled the importance of training and possible solutions to the problems faced by the field study students during this time.
The said orientation was also participated by the distinguished Executive Directors of the different PSU campuses namely: Dr. Renato E. Salcedo, CED of Alaminos Campus; Dr. Armando D. Junio, CED of Asingan Campus; Dr. Roy C. Ferrer, CED of Binmaley Campus; Dr. Liza L. Quimson, CED of Bayambang Campus; Dr. Ian D. Evangelista, CED of Infanta Campus; Dr. Lorna G. Urbiztondo CED of Lingayen Campus; Dr. Adonis S. Bautista CED of San Carlos Campus; Dr. Elmer C. Vingua CED of Sta. Maria Campus; and Dr. Honorio L. Cascolan CED of Urdaneta campus. Each of them delivered their inspirational messages and motivated us--- the students to keep moving forward despite of the many challenges that we are facing these days.
Right after the messages of the Executive Directors, Dr. Rosanna Gonzales, the Practice Teaching Coordinator of PSU Infanta Campus introduced our key note speaker, none other than Dr. Juan Primitivo P. Petrola, the Education Supervisor II, Teacher Education Commission on Higher Education of Region I. He reminded us that our profession, which is teaching, is the noblest profession of all. Moreover, he discussed how COVID-19 has largely affected the education system in our country. Furthermore, Dr. Juan Primitivo imparted his knowledge regarding with the 21st century teaching and learning. He ended his message by sharing his own poem entitled “Isa kang Guro, hindi guro lang”. It is indeed that teachers play a vital role in the development of learners. The event proceeded to the awarding of certificate to our honorable key note speaker. Students are also given the opportunity to raise their questions and concerns. The orientation was hosted by Ms. Betha Fe Cruz via Zoom and Mr. John Joseph Zarate via Facebook live.
In the afternoon, Dr. Rosanna Gonzales presented the guidelines of the conduct of the field study courses. After which, the field study requirements and guidelines in creating an electronic portfolio was presented by Associate Professor Agnes V. Baruela, the Practice Teaching Coordinator of PSU Bayambang Campus. Meanwhile, Prof. Perla G. Delos Santos enlightened us about Field Study 1 and Field Study 2. The orientation concluded after Professor Perla G. Delos Santos delivered her words of appreciation to our keynote speaker and to the participants as well.
