WELCOME

I am a Professor in the Department of Economics and International Business and the Program Director of the Master in Applied Economics at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, U.S.A.  

My research focuses in Health Economics,  Environmental Economics, Economics of Crime, Computational Economics, and Applied Microeconomics. 

My work has been published in journals such as American Economic Journal: Economic Policy,  Health Economics, Economics and Human Biology, Environmental and Resource Economics, Energy Economics, Applied Economics, Empirical Economics, Oxford Development Studies, Social Science and Medicine, Computational Economics, Journal of Housing Economics, Economic Letters.

I have taught a large variety of undergraduate-level classes:  Principles of Microeconomics, Principles of Macroeconomics, Introduction to Economics, Energy and Environmental Economics, Intermediate Microeconomics, and Health Economics and Finances. 

I obtained my Ph. D. in Economics from The University of Texas at Austin in 2003. After graduation I worked doing economic analysis at Sociedad Hipotecaria Federal (a second-floor mortgage bank) in Mexico City until 2005. During that time I also taught Macroeconomics as an external instructor at Centro de Investigacion y Docencia Economica (CIDE) in Mexico City.  Since 2005, I have been affiliated with the Department of Economics & International Business at Sam Houston State University first as an Assistant Professor (2005-2011), then Associate Professor (2011-2017) and I was promoted to Professor in 2017.
