Primary Art Curriculum (Yearly Overview)
Term 1: Elements of Art
Focus: Understanding basic building blocks
• Week 1–2: Line — drawing different types of lines (zigzag, wavy, dashed)
• Week 3–4: Shape — learning geometric & organic shapes through collage
• Week 5–6: Color — primary vs secondary colors, color mixing with paint
• Week 7–8: Texture — rubbing textures, creating texture with materials (e.g., cotton, foil)
• Week 9–10: Form & Space — basic 3D shapes with clay/playdough & foreground-background drawing
Term 2: Art Through Cultures & Nature
Focus: Inspiration from the world around
• Week 1–2: Tribal/folk art — Warli, Aboriginal dots, African masks
• Week 3–4: Nature-inspired art — Leaf rubbings, flower painting, animals
• Week 5–6: Seasonal art — Rainy-day painting, autumn trees, sun & sky
• Week 7–8: Underwater world — Fish, coral, and sea creatures with wax resist
• Week 9–10: Festive art — Diwali diyas, Christmas cards, Holi splashes
Term 3: Art Skills & Expression
Focus: Developing skills and self-expression
• Week 1–2: Portraits — self-portraits with mirror, cartoon faces
• Week 3–4: Still life — fruit bowl drawing, toy sketching
• Week 5–6: Story art — drawing a scene from a story or fairy tale
• Week 7–8: Mixed media — combining paint, paper, glue, and more
• Week 9–10: My Imagination — “What if I had wings?” or “A day on another planet”
Term 4: Art Projects & Presentation
Focus: Putting it all together
• Week 1–2: Create your own comic strip or picture book
• Week 3–4: Art inspired by famous artists — Van Gogh, Picasso, Frida Kahlo
• Week 5–6: Group mural project — big wall/board painting in teams
• Week 7–8: Recycled art — using waste to create something beautiful
• Week 9–10: Art exhibition prep — picking and displaying favorite works
