Food insecurity deeply affects our city and takes a toll on the health and finances of our community. Families who don't have access to nutritious food have higher rates of disease. In 2024, our food shelves hit an unforeseen number of 9 million visitors (The Food Group, 2025). Furthermore, one out of every five Minnesotans lacks the funds for food, and this lack of access to food really affects families (Loth, 2025). Food insecurity doesn't just affect a couple of people; it affects our whole community.
