As of February 20, 2020, the Volunteer process changed and most, if not all, volunteers have to start from scratch. Good news is after you are approved, your approved status is good for 6 years.
Volunteer at FHSD events involving students are required to have current Volunteer Status and an Application on file with the district. A few examples being; spirit sales during school hours, or assisting with Freshman Transition Day, Schedule Pick Up, Viking Way and senior or class celebrations. Volunteer approval is also needed if you will be chaperoning for field trips, class parties, school dances, overnight travels, athletic/club/band sponsored competitions, transporting students to school events, set up for performance/competition/school events, constructing sets or assisting students with costumes/make-up.
High School events do not require volunteer status if the visitor is not alone with students and can be directly supervised by an FHSD staff members. Some examples are: assisting with Teacher appreciation events, Booster Club meetings, guest speaker, parent concessions.
If you are a district sub, and will be volunteering, you will need to fill out the above application and initial next to all training videos already watched and send application to Elizabeth Koziatek at district for her to note in IC and have current application on file. This process will need to be done yearly for each new school year. Lastly, please note, all Visitors and Volunteers, when at Howell, need to sign in and out through the Attendance Office.
The approval process includes; completion of the Annual Volunteer Application/Video Training, background checked by registering with Missouri Family Care Safety and be digitally fingerprinted (more information regarding these steps are listed below). I have attached the application and video training for your convenience. You can also find the application and videos that need to be watched on the FHSDschools.org website. Select Parent or Community, then from the drop down menu on left, scroll down and select Volunteer. Please keep in mind that this process could take up to two weeks.
Please complete the updated Annual Volunteer Application/ Video Training form which is attached. Once complete, please return it to the attention of Elizabeth Koziatek, elizabeth.koziatek@fhsdschools.org or by dropping it off at the District Administration building, 4545 Central School Road. Since this is time sensitive, you can then proceed to the next steps below and get them started.
Background Check: Effective July 1, 2021, the State of Missouri is now performing background checks through the Missouri Family Care Safety Registry (FCSR) at https://health.mo.gov/safety/fcsr/. This system allows you to first confirm whether or not you are already on the registry (possibly from a previous employer, etc.). If you are not, attached is detailed instructions on how to do this, if you need them. Once you complete the registration process, or if you find that you are already on the Registry, please contact Elizabeth Koziatek to initiate the background check. The State charges each applicant $15.25 to join the Registry.
Digital Fingerprinting: Effective February 2020, the State of Missouri requires that all Volunteers with public school districts be fingerprinted. Please register at www.machs.mo.gov or call 1-844-543-9712. When you are asked for a four-digit code, please use 8403 so that Francis Howell School District can view the fingerprint report when it is complete. The cost for fingerprinting is around $40.00, paid by the applicant, and you should have the option of paying online or at the fingerprinting facility itself. Facility locations are subject to change without notice, so please check the list toward the end of the registration process for locations and appointments currently available in the MACHS network. Please do not go for fingerprinting without an appointment, the online confirmation page, and a photo ID. Contact Elizabeth Koziatek if have any questions, elizabeth.koziatek@fhsdschools.org.
