Getting ready to use the add-on consists of a few steps:
Each of these steps is detailed below.
To install the add-on, click install on its Chrome Web Store page. You can also choose the "Get Add-ons" menu option in a Google Sheets spreadsheet and search for it.
To use the add-on with a spreadsheet, the sheets within the spreadsheet must be in a particular format:
Below is an example of a spreadsheet with its sheets in the correct order. Note that all tabs after "Master Table" and "Settings" are user-imported sheets containing player data tables, and should be replaced by the data tables you want to use with the add-on.
Setting up your sheets in this way can easily be automated in either of two ways:
You can also manually set up your sheets by renaming them, but make sure you use the correct formatting (see below). Either way, once your sheets are ordered and named properly, you can begin to import your own data by adding sheets and customize your Master Table through the Settings sheet. The data within the Settings sheet and all data sheets must also be in a particular format so that the add-on can generate a Master Table when you are ready. To learn how to import data and customize your Master Table with the necessary formatting, keep reading.
The add-on is designed to be used with multiple sheets filled with fantasy football player data from a variety of sources. Once your data is imported, your spreadsheet will have a Master Table sheet, a Settings sheet, and however many data sheets you decide to include. For an example spreadsheet with different data sources to use, make a copy of this Google Spreadsheet (preview at the bottom of this page). Different users will want to import their data in different ways depending on the data source. In the end, how you import your data does not matter as long as each data sheet contains a table with fantasy football player data that has one column for player names and other columns for stats/data about each of those players. This data must be formatted in a certain way (see Formatting Data below). A sample sheet of data imported from FantasyPros in the correct format can be seen below.
Here are a couple ways to import data into your spreadsheet. Note that after this is done, you must verify that your imported sheets match the correct formatting for data sheets (see Formatting Data below).
Do this for all of the data which contains columns that you may want to include in your customized Master Table. Then you must verify your data sheets are imported correctly, as described below.
Some data tables that you import into sheets in your spreadsheet may not be formatted in the way the add-on expects. This will cause errors if you try to generate a customized Master Table without proper formatting. You should already have data imported into the data sheets you want to use. Here are the requirements for how a data table in a data sheet must be formatted. If any of your data sheets does not meet these requirements, just edit the sheet so that it does. An example data sheet with proper formats is shown in an image in the above section.
Data sheets must:
If your data sheets contain any invalid formats you will receive errors. If the errors are not helpful in solving the issue, please look over each data sheet to find data that does not abide by the above formats. You can also try deleting data sheets to see which ones cause problems. If you still cannot determine what data sheets/rows have improper formats, or how to fix the improper formats, contact us.
Once your data is imported and properly formatted, you can choose which columns from your data sheets you want to appear in your Master Table. You can also reorder them, add formulas, and set colors for the Master Table columns. All this is done through the Settings sheet. The Settings sheet contains information for each column you want to include in your Master Table. Each column in the Settings sheet (except A, which is reserved) corresponds to that same column in the Master Table (B=B, C=C). Whatever data sheet column is referenced in a Settings column will appear in that same column in the generated Master Table. Below is an example of a properly formatted Settings sheet.
Notice that the first column in the Settings sheet contains a column header labeling the information which should appear in each row in the Settings sheet. This makes sense because the first column in the Master Table sheet will always be the player column, so no input is necessary for Settings column A. Settings columns B, C, D, etc reference data sheet columns which will appear in Master Table columns B, C, D, respectively once it is generated. The correct way to reference these data sheet columns is described below.
The add-on is used to combine fantasy football data and player stats from any source into customized tables containing the most important information. Each data sheet contains information from one source, and you will want to choose the most important data sheet columns from each data sheet to include in your Master Table. This is done by referencing each data sheet column you want to include in the Master Table in a column in Settings. You can reference a data sheet column in two ways:
Once you have chosen which columns you want to appear in your Master Table, order the Settings columns into the same order you want the referenced columns to appear in the Master Table. You can drag and drop columns in Google Sheets by holding down on the column letter and moving the mouse left or right. If you want, you are now ready to generate your Master Table, or you can further edit your Settings sheet for more advanced features.
Once your setup and customization is complete, you can finally generate your Master Table. All you need to do is select the "Add-ons->Fantasy Football Stat Stud->Update Master Table" menu option to fill the first sheet (named Master Table) in your spreadsheet with your customized player data table containing the data columns you chose. This can take around a minute if you have a lot of data. Each time you select this option, the existing Master Table will be overwritten with a new one, even if your Settings page is the same. With your new Master Table you'll be analyzing and drafting like a pro!
