On the day after Thanksgiving in November 1991, Tom Field Sr., Dennis Field Sr., Melvin Field, Brian Field, Tommy Field, and Danny Field set out to watch a college football game between Oklahoma and Nebraska and had such a grand time. Dennis Sr. declared it an annual event and new tradition celebrating Love and Family touring Philadelphia bars creating the inaugural Field Family Pub Crawl.
The year 1991 was a period of vast global transition marked by the fall of the Soviet Union and the public emergence of the World Wide Web. There were no smart phones…box phones were just starting to show up in cars…a gallon of gas averaged $1.14, while a pint of beer cost around $2.35.
We still purchased Albums and just prior to our gathering was the “1991 44-Day Window” A popular Instagram Reel points out that an unprecedented cluster of defining rock and alternative albums
came out in a span of just 44 days starting in August 1991:
Metallica – Metallica (August 12, 1991)
Pearl Jam – Ten (August 27, 1991)
Nirvana – Nevermind (September 24, 1991)
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Blood Sugar Sex Magik (September 24, 1991)
Soundgarden – Badmotorfinger (October 8, 1991)
Guns N' Roses – Use Your Illusion I & II (September 17, 1991)
Yet, amid that fast-changing world, the Field family established a grounding local tradition centered entirely on togetherness and gratitude during the holiday season.
Over 35 years later this modest gathering has grown into an international reunion - drawing over 100 family members and friends from across the globe…In 2004 we added a plaque in honor of our Irish cousin Danny Enright’s passing with his picture and his poem “The Referee”
Each year, the group winds through the streets of Philadelphia, carrying on a tradition built on kinship and fellowship that ultimately wraps up just steps away from LOVE Park in the heart of the City of Brotherly Love.
Slainte!
Most of these pics are Kim's and Brian's! So, if you have any objection to the depiction of your drunken selves... oops!
I can easily add more photos to the carousel, so please send me any that you think would be a good addition :)
