Dear Community Members/Neighbors/Partners,
Chicago Park District has announced that Fernwood Park’s basketball courts will be renovated as part of the Chicago Park District’s Slam Dunk Program! The project will include:
Resizing the court to meet official high school dimensions
New coating and striping
ADA accessibility improvements
As part of the planning process, we want to acknowledge and address community concerns regarding safety. In light of requests from residents to remove the rims due to violence near the courts, we are inviting community members to our next meeting to discuss the renovation plans and how we can move forward together.

The Chicago Park District's Office of Inspector General (OIG) is soliciting ideas for potential audits to include in OIG's 2025 Audit Plan. The Audit Plan will identify audits OIG may launch in the upcoming calendar year.
Through its audits, OIG seeks to improve the Park District's internal controls, ensure compliance with Park District policies, reduce costs, mitigate risks, and generally improve the effectiveness and efficiency of Park District operations. OIG's Department of Audit conducts audits by collecting, reviewing, and analyzing information about Park District operations and procedures and then drafts reports that provide the District with recommendations for improvement.
By collecting suggestions regarding possible audit topics from District patrons and employees, OIG can better ensure all perspectives are considered. OIG thanks you for your help in identifying how the Park District can better deliver services and meet its strategic goals.
