Fernando Cruz Otoya is a Peruvian trumpet player whose musical journey began at an early age in his school band, where he stood out through his participation in several interscholastic competitions. This first experience awakened in him a strong commitment to music and a constant desire for growth, leading him to pursue professional studies at the Universidad Nacional de Música del Perú.
After successfully completing the preparatory program under the guidance of professor José Luis Soriano, he continued his higher education studies with trumpet player Juan José Llanos as his principal teacher. Alongside his academic training, he has complemented his education through courses, festivals, and masterclasses with internationally and nationally recognized trumpet players such as Pacho Flores, Eric Aubier, Franco Carranza, Fernando Dissenha, Alexis Morales, and Alex Freud, among others, enriching both his artistic and pedagogical perspective.
In 2018, he joined the youth orchestra of Sinfonía por el Perú, where, under the guidance of maestro Daniel Vásquez, he has participated in numerous concerts held in some of Peru’s most important venues. As part of this experience, he joined the orchestra’s European tour in 2024, performing in several international stages. He currently serves as principal trumpet of the orchestra.
Throughout his academic development, Fernando has also remained actively involved in traditional and popular Latin American music ensembles, exploring genres such as jazz, salsa, timba, cumbia, and huayno. This coexistence between different musical languages broadened his artistic perspective and strengthened his interest in connecting classical music with popular cultural expressions.
As a result of this artistic vision, in 2023 he co-founded ELITE BRASS, a brass quintet dedicated to promoting Peruvian and Latin American music through an innovative format aimed at reaching new audiences.
Fernando has currently completed his higher education studies and continues his artistic development at OAcademy, maintaining a constant pursuit of artistic growth, musical excellence, and new possibilities for artistic and human development.
