• Best Academic-Scientific Paper Award. Silva-Cancino, N., Salazar, F., Irazábal, J., Mata, J. (2025). Adaptive warning thresholds in dam safety using kernel density estimation. 5th International Dam World Conference. Lisbon, Portugal, April 2025.

• Winner of the 2017 "International Innovation Challenge" organized by Verbund Hydropower (Austria), titled “Neural Networks in Power Plants.” 

• “Patent with the greatest impact on society at the developed at UPM Award (2022)” to the patent “Concrete precast unit with drainage and aeration system for protection against water currents”, co-invented by the researcher [1].

• XVI TALGO Innovation Prize was awarded to Dr. Joaquín Irazábal's PhD Thesis “Numerical analysis of railway ballast behaviour using the Discrete Element Method”, of which I was unofficial co-director.

• Dr. Javier San Mauro’s PhD Thesis (2018), titled “Wedge-Shaped Block Spillway Design”, was awarded the González Cruz Prize for the best PhD thesis in hydraulic and dam engineering at the Technical University of Madrid. I was unofficial supervisor of this PhD Thesis.
