About us: Our group at IISER-TVM is an interdisciplinary research group that focuses on the design and development of soft materials for fabricating biomolecular junctions, which will enable us to study their use as circuit elements in working devices.  The main motivation of the group will be extended from the fundamental understanding of concepts at the molecular level to proof-of-principal electronic devices with new electronic functions not possible with conventional semiconductor electronics. 

As the feature size of the electronic components approaches the molecular scale, quantum tunneling (and other quantum effects) begin to dominate. Therefore the length of the current path studied will be of molecular dimensions (< 10nm). Much effort will be extended to understand the mechanism(s) of charge transport over long distances. Our areas of interest also include surface functionalization, nano-fabrication, bio-sensing, surface characterization, and protein film electrochemistry. Our work carried out at IISER-TVM is very interdisciplinary and will focus on researchers from different disciplines (i.e., Chemistry, physics, biology, material science, and electrical engineering)

• Rational design of functional bio/molecular electronic devices with new functions, notably chemical and bio- sensing applications

• Commercial devices based on combinations of conventional semiconductors with molecular electronic components, to result in a new class of “hybrid” electronics with new functions

• In-situ spectroscopy of "live" molecular electronic devices (IETS), including interactions of light with  electronic junctions relevant to photonics
