After many years as a pure mathematician, I realised that I had spent a good amount of time studying Applied Mathematics, Computer Sciences, Artificial Intelligence and applications of Pure Maths to other fields simply because I was very interested in all of them. As a consequence, I began doing research in these areas becoming more involved in real world projects. I still mantain an active interest in Pure Mathematics and continue to do research on K-theory/homotopy theory and algebraic geometry: it seems that I am not able to commit myself to being only a pure mathematician or an applied one and this will be fine unless I have an identity crisis.
