Chests

What are chests?

Chests are color-coded lootboxes locked by puzzles hidden throughout the Expanse (Mugmyre Marsh, Blood Tundra, and Lakeroot Valley). The locks on the chests can be opened by playing a timing-based mini-game in which rotating circles will have openings for a lockpick to go through when clicked. Bronze (or red) chests have one lock, Silver (or blue) have two, and Gold (purple or “golurple”) have three. The rewards for these chests vary but can include items (both clothing and sanctuary), ingredients/materials, or likes. The amount of chests you can unlock is around 30 per update, but you'll get a notification that you've found them all so no need to count!

There are also brown (or “basic”) chests that do not require lockpicks and reload prizes in the same location after 15 minutes.

Where can I find them?

While much bigger, chests may be few and far between. Good places to check for gold, silver, and bronze chests are in spots between or under trees, under waterfalls, near or around buildings, or near rocky outcroppings. Since new chests respawn in a different area every time you unlock them, you may have to revisit the same parts of the map multiple times. However, with brown chests staying in place, we do have maps with each of their locations!

Lockpicks

What are lockpicks?

Lockpicks are an item/material collected in the Expanse and used to open chests or can be traded to other players. They will appear as small, white, sparkling stars on the ground and spawn in a set of various locations. Once you pick up a lockpick, another will spawn in a different location in the same land. The amount of lockpicks you can collect is around [X] per update.

Where can I find them?

Clever places they’re frequently hidden are on plant leaves or in the grass, on buildings and porches, or camouflaged in the Tundra snow. Be sure to look for a collection icon pop-up.
