Call for Speakers: 2019 CCCC Feminist Workshop in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
On behalf of the Feminist Caucus, we seek panelists for the 2019 CCCC Feminist Workshop in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Focusing on ways of performing feminisms in the classroom, the field, the academy, and the community, this year’s workshop “Living Feminist Lives: Materialities, Methodologies, and Practices” asks panelists to consider the ways that we live out our feminist practices in the various work that we do. Drawing on Sara Ahmed, we urge panelists to ask “ethical questions about how to live better in an unjust and unequal world…how to create relationships with others that are more equal; how to find ways to support those who are not supported or are less supported by social systems; how to keep coming up against histories that have become concrete, histories that have become as solid as walls” (Living a Feminist Life 1). As feminists in the field of composition-rhetoric, we consider these questions central to performing our work as educators and researchers.
We invite presenters to share ways that feminisms help them to work toward a more equitable future. We are particularly interested in presentations that utilize intersectional theories, experiences, and perspectives to identify problems, to problematize common practices, and to offer potential solutions or ways forward to issues that feminist teacher-scholars commonly confront in the labors that they perform. Each presentation should also focus on providing a specific practice that can be shared with workshop participants. Possible topics might explore the following:
We invite you to submit a proposal that briefly (150-200 words) describes the topic/issue/experience/theory to be discussed and how it can help inform, enhance, and transform the various labors that we perform as feminists active in the field of composition-rhetoric. Interactive presentations are encouraged. Please email your proposal to both patty.wilde@wsu.edu and mcdermlm@whitman.edu by April 27, 2018, to be reviewed by the Feminist Workshop committee. Participating in the workshop does not preclude you from having a speaking role at the conference. If you have any questions, please let us know.
