Anthony Brown
Flown across countries in just the span of a day
while I sat uncomfortably numb looking into the
night sky the plane seemingly sat above. I looked
toward the back aisles to see that most had fallen
victim of the clear skies headed closer to the tropical
island of Puerto Rico. My eyes wouldn’t cooperate.
A blue barren airport sat as I’d exited into unfamiliar land
in the dead of night. I’d have to be at port at ten in the
morning, but I had no room to go too. I sat near a pole
outside of the airport with two miraculous charging ports
as my mind caught the disease of dizziness that would drag
me in deeper into much desired unconsciousness. From there
to a dark unlit city into a never-closing restaurant, I perceived the
music and slot machines around me as a scream for help as
my eyes began to burn and beg for closure. When the sun rose
I followed the wind’s direction to the port where others smiled and
laughed as they boarded the heaven-staking ship. I was a part of the
waves crashing where I sat, as sweat dripped into my eye as magma.
I felt like a mechanical animal, faking my way through emotions as
I longed for a much-needed rest. I wasn’t here, but I was at the same
time. My name starts with the same letter as Anachronism. The air
surrounding me in a shroud of fog, signaling urgently as a vacuum to
sway me in the direction of the ship. I finally found it. Eyes of a zombie
to the golden ticket of the room where I swooned at last. The noise continued
to haunt me late into the night as I lay screaming in the worlds of
consciousness. My vision began to blur into one with the counter merging
with the outside world that I’ve given all that I’ve got.
