On board

I often fly to Bolivia on business. I always choose an aisle seat, so that I can get up and walk around more easily.

My favourite place to sit is the emergency exit row so I have more legroom. 

Sometimes there’s turbulence when the plane flies over the Andes, which I don’t enjoy, and the cabin crew tell the passengers to put their seat belts on.

There aren’t any direct flights to La Paz from London, so I usually have to get a connecting flight in Madrid.

Whenever I take long-haul flights, I always suffer from jet lag because of the time difference and I feel tired for several days.

Travel is normally used as a verb.

Journey just refers to going fromone place to another.

Trip covers going sowhere, staying there, and coming back.

My husband dropped me off at the airport two hours before the flight.

I checked in online the day before I was going to fly.

As soon as I got on the plane, I put my bag in the overhead locker.

The plane took off late because of the bad weather.

When I picked up my luggage at baggage reclaim, I bumped into an old friend who had been on the same flight.

I filled in the immigration form for the US, which the cabin crew gave me shortly before landing.

When I got off the plane, I felt exhausted after the long flight.

My flight arrived really late at night, but luckily, a friend picked me up at the airport.

Last year, I wanted to travel to Madrid to Hamburg to visit a friend. I had booked an internacional flight from Madrid to Frankfurt and a connecting flight from Frankfurt to Hamburg.

I printed off my boarding pass the day before my flight, and I took it with me to the airport.

I was able to go straight to security in Departures, because I only had hand luggage - a small backpack.

After scanning my bag, they opened it and checked it to make sure I wasn't carrying any liquids or sharp objects, like scissors.

When I finally got my bag back, I looked at the departures board to see if my flight was already boarding.

I needn't have worried, because the flight was delayed. The plane didn't take off until two hours later.

When I eventually arrived in Frankfurt, I was happy to see that my next flight was on time.

However, just before we were due to board, we were informed that the flight had been cancelled -  apparently, planes couldn't land in Hamburg because of bad weather.

In the end, I finished my journey by train, and I arrived in Hamburg eight hours late!
