Our new paper “Evolution of thumbnails across Rodentia” was featuring on the cover of the 4 September 2025 issue of Science
Our lab received the Field Museum's Innovation Award
Our lab received the Innovation Award from the Field Museum to develop the project: “Revealing Historical Plant–Animal Interactions with eDNA: A Framework for Analysis and eDNA-Compatible Curation.”
This will be led by Amanda Grunwald, Sophie Picq, and Anderson Feijó
Stay tuned for updates on our research into eDNA and plant–bat interactions!

Over the next two years, Dr. Grunwald will develop her postdoc project, From museum collections to conservatoin: Uncovering climate-driven shifts in tropical montane bat communities, at The Field Museum in our lab, made possible through funding from Walder Foundation.

Francisco and Marcela will join our lab in September!
Francisco Silva Neto is a PhD student at the Federal University of Pernambuco (Brazil), advised by Dr. Diego Astúa. His research focuses on the evolution of the mammalian mandible. During his fellowship in our lab, Francisco will broaden his morphological dataset to include representatives from all mammal families.
Marcela Gehlen de Oliveira is a PhD student at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil), co-advised by Dr. Maria João Pereira and Dr. Flávia Tirelli. Her project investigates morphological and ecological niche evolution in armadillos, integrating morphometrics and species distribution modeling to explore the diversification of this fascinating group.
We’re excited to support their research and welcome them to the lab.
