The six-episode second season begins following the climactic finale of Season 1, which left Mae (playing a fictionalized version of themself) relapsing into drug use. (The character uses she/her throughout the show, but embraces a non-binary identity in the finale.) Season 2 opens with Mae back home in Toronto, getting dropped off at rehab by their well-meaning but emotionally distant parents, played to odd couple perfection by the great Lisa Kudrow and Adrian Lukis.

Sad to see that r/feelgoodnetflix has submissions locked and that this subreddit isn't active! I also couldn't find any episode discussions on r/television or r/netflix. Loved the show and wanted to see some discussion on the episodes, so I created this post to link to every single episode.

At the end of Feel Good season 2, episode 5, Mae proposes to their girlfriend George in public and is rejected, but the two stay together. Mae expects that, after having publicly been turned down, their relationship is over, the latest in a string of break-ups and reunions, but George has no intention of leaving and even accompanies Mae back to their home in Canada. The unconventional decision stems in part from the inconsiderate way in which Mae proposes but is also appropriate considering that their relationship is still evolving and has long defied convention.

Feel Good season 2 continues where the first one left off, chronicling the tempestuous relationship between Mae and George, played by Mae Martin and Charlotte Ritchie. Whereas in the first season the difficulties in their relationship stemmed from George's insistence on keeping things a secret and Mae's struggle overcoming substance addiction, in season 2, the focus shifts to Mae's unresolved trauma from their teenage years and George's efforts to establish her own space and interests.

The main reason why George rejects Mae's proposal is not that she doesn't want them to be together, but rather because of the inappropriateness of the venue. Mae is asking George in front of her family and students, wearing an incongruous chainmail shirt, after they have just missed the actual event that George wanted them to attend. George sees the proposal as a self-centered grand gesture designed to make up for Mae's gloomy hostility, and a sign of how Mae sees George as part of their story and not a person of her own. The discussion of the famous cue card scene in Love Actually earlier in the episode helps to establish why such a gesture can be off-putting for the person receiving it. Even if George does want to marry Mae at some point in the future, she doesn't want it to be forever associated with such an embarrassing and frustrating moment. As she explains later, George is rejecting what she calls "the world's worst proposal", not Mae themself.

George decides to stay with Mae in part because their relationship is just beginning, and many things about them are undefined. As she notes, Mae doesn't even know her last name. In the final episode, Mae and George discuss and experiment with their desires in Montreal, with George raising the possibility of an open relationship and Mae questioning their own gender identity. This uncertainty makes it way too soon for marriage, but it's also clear that George's queer relationship with Mae has allowed her to re-examine her sexuality in both obvious and subtle ways. Staying with Mae, and staying unmarried, makes further exploration possible.

It's also clear that, for all their difficulties, Mae and George genuinely love each other. Throughout both seasons of Feel Good, they help each other to deal with their struggles and provide unwavering acceptance. Both have had a long history of unsatisfying and even abusive relationships and found solace in each other. Even beyond its queer nature, their relationship is unusual, through all its stops and starts and both people's eccentricities and needs. Staying together after Mae's failed proposal may be the perfect unconventional conclusion to such an unconventional relationship.

Feel Good season 2 was announced ahead of time as the final season of the series, so the indeterminate, unconstrained nature of Mae and George's relationship is what the series decided to end on. The final episode both examines the potential new frontiers of Mae and George's relationship and shows how it can provide comfort and confidence through George helping Mae confront Scott. Ultimately George, and Feel Good as a whole, decide this unresolved potential is a more fitting conclusion than the neat bow of marriage.

The new episodes pick up where the story left off, with troubled stand-up comedian Mae (Martin) taking some time apart from girlfriend George (Ritchie) after relapsing in their cocaine use and cheating on her with a friend.

It's safe to say the relationship is in a precarious position and the two will face further challenges in the six-episode follow-up, including the introduction of a new love rival and the reveal of a dark secret from Mae's past.

If you want to get up to speed on the cast and characters in Mae Martin's Feel Good, read on for all the details you need. You can also check out our Feel Good season 2 review to see if the new episodes are worth your time.

Netflix's Feel Good has thrown Mae (Mae Martin) down an emotional rabbit hole in its two seasons with the comedian trying hard in rehab and to make it work with her girlfriend, George (Charlotte Richie). However, she's facing immense pressure with her career, a fear of commitment and parents who constantly make her feel like she's still a thief and junkie.

Mae's breaking mentally as she has to confront her best friend, Scott, for how he groomed her when she was 16 and he was in his 30s. It's part of her defense mechanism -- not to mention she wants to flee England as George turned down a public proposal at her school's play. George knows Mae's feeling inadequate but it's a knee-jerk reaction as Mae doesn't know her as well in their months of dating.

Admittedly, the polyamorous Elliott, George's ex and fellow teacher, goaded Mae into the proposal, knowing it'd alienate George and push her back to him. But while Mae's panicking as she packs back at the apartment, George doesn't break up with her. Instead, she wants to make the trip too as she can tell Mae needs her. Sure, Mae's been selfish, hogging the spotlight, but George puts aside how she's feeling more like a parent than partner.

Mae also escapes her old drug dealer with George in a comedic chase, but she ends up at her old home which she shared with Scott. George tries to take her mind off it but as they try to have sex, Mae suffers an episode, and this panic attack reaffirms that she needs to stop avoiding the meeting with Scott, who has admittedly treated her well for their entire lives. The next day, she confronts Scott at the club and chides him for manipulating her. She parts ways -- though she still loves him -- feeling free of her trauma and secrets at last. 006ab0faaa
