Feeding Reminiscence

Feeding Reminiscence is a food education documentary and essay film segmented by my own personal stories and recipe tutorials of home cooks in my social circle. This documentary follows an arch rooted in the connections between food and memory. I frame these connections in three main ways: how food evokes memory, how food enhances memory, and how food can esteem the collective memory of a community. This film makes the kitchen accessible to cooks of all levels, romanticizes the average “home plate” dining experience, and values the simplicity of accessible foods and cooking techniques.
What had originally attracted me to this concept was freedom to play around with filmmaking without the traditional pressure of fast-paced narrative productions. This documentary gave me opportunity to spend quality time with friends and family and to know them on a deeper, intimate level. The film fosters a community of foodies, cooking hobbyists, and viewers connected to the cultures/nationalities represented. Exemplifying different cultural foods offers an opportunity of learning amongst Iranian, American, and Cameroonian viewers in combination with the many faces, races, and identities of foodies and cooking enthusiasts.
