Revenue deficit: It is the difference of revenue expenditure and revenue receipts. A revenue deficit implies that the government needs to borrow to finance those expenses which do not increase its assets or reduces its liabilities. The budget estimates a revenue deficit of Rs 16,949 crore (1.5% of the GSDP) in 2023-24. In 2022-23, revenue deficit is estimated to be Rs 18,005 crore (1.8% of GSDP), which is 85% higher than the budget estimate (Rs 9,774 crore).

The auditors have also observed that since this was a centralised purchase for 149 colleges and consolidated payment on behalf of all the colleges was made by the higher education director to the publishers, the department was eligible for availing of the discount ranging between 25% and 35% on bulk order for 63,77,236 copies of selected books.

Further, the report alleges, the then higher education director issued an undated certificate regarding receipt of the books in good condition by the colleges without verifying the same from all 149 colleges.

Thus, the auditors say, failure of the higher education department to comply with government instructions in purchase of high value books and overall negligence in purchase activity resulted in avoidable expenditure of Rs 92.58 lakh.

The department has been told to give the details of year-wise allocation/receipt of a grant from the state/Centre towards infrastructural requirements; scholarship; salary; fixtures and furniture; books; energy, motor vehicles, medical etc by all three branches of the department secondary education; higher education and primary education and its utilization in the respective category.

The questionnaire consisted of two parts: the first part included demographic information, and the second part contained questions specific to dental trauma. Demographic data included age, paternal education, monthly family income, and previous academic grades. Dental trauma questions were about the experience of dental trauma to permanent anterior teeth, types and place of dental trauma, reasons for dental trauma, and the receipt and timing of dental treatment.

The analysis of sociodemographic factors on dental trauma and the receipt of dental treatment was performed in the present study. The multiple logistic regression analysis showed lower odds of dental trauma among children from high-income families than low- and middle-income families. Similarly, rtun and Al-Azemi demonstrated a reduced risk of dental trauma among adolescents from high-income families in Kuwait [32]. Our study also demonstrated reduced odds of dental trauma among children with high paternal education, though the relationship was not significant. Dam-Teixeira demonstrated significantly greater likelihood of dental trauma to at least one tooth among children from low socioeconomic status [23]. Low and middle socioeconomic status school children most likely live in crowded houses which increase their chances of experiencing dental trauma. Conversely, high parental education results in increased awareness about the prevention of dental trauma and reduced incidence of dental trauma [23, 27]. These explain the reasons behind reduced likelihood of dental trauma among adolescents from high-income and high-educated families in the present study. On the contrary, Hamdan and Rajab showed no significant association between socioeconomic factors and dental trauma [29]. e24fc04721
