Right: USS Essex in Hampton Roads
The UFNS Stinger is a United Federation Aircraft Carrier formerly based at Naval Base 2, New Archton. The ship is a straight deck carrier and the first of it's class. It's registry was CV-9. The vessel was officially struck from service on May 12, 2018
Like so many other Federation Warships, Stinger was made at Gateway Naval Facility in New Archton. The ship was originally designed to be a warship to fight the Coalition, but the Coalition backed down from the Firestar Crisis, and the ship's purpose became one of peaceful power projection. She was fitted out with her complement of 10 Sea-Sparrow Fighters. Stinger is a straight deck carrier, and is based on the design of the American Essex-class carriers of WW2. Coincidentally, the registry of the American USS Essex is also CV-9.
The USS Stinger was re-commissioned into the Federation Navy, and was assigned to Strike Group 2, along with the Destroyers New Archton and New Olympus. While on exercise with the USS Hornet, the Stopping System aboard the Carrier failed, resulting in 3 Firestars and a Sparrow being lost.
After this accident, the Stinger was decommissioned and placed in reserve, until the USS Sun Prairie was officially completed. Once it was, the carrier remained in reserve for 2 more days, then was struck from the Naval List on May 12.
