The Prairie-class are a type of Light Destroyer built for the United Federation Military to supplement and eventually replace the Adrian Schlafer-class of GM Destroyers. They were all named after states in the UFP, and patrol Independence River and Lake Carriage. They ended up as a financial failure, and are all decommissioned.
The design of the Prairie-class is a completely unique design, not based on any other navy's vessels or concepts. It is based, like it's predecessor, on the Saigon-type hull, but has a far smaller superstructure and gun mounts. Instead of a full radar array and targeting equipment, the Prairie-class uses a single radio mount, and line-of-sight gunfire aiming systems, rather than technological systems.
Another difference between the older design and the Prairie-class is the inclusion of a landing pad. The Prairie-class can carry one Sparrow or Y-wing fighter, or other cargo on it's flush rear-deck area. This is also where the nameplate is located.
