The Omaha-class Frigate is a class of Frigate in use with the Federation, Despa, and possibly others in the future. The is a multi-role Frigate, designed for all-round use in all environments. One, Omaha, was sold to the Republic of Despa.
The Omaha-class was an experiment by the Federation do develop a new type of aircraft for use in the outer colonies. The Plane was not approved by the State Council, however, and thus the two already built were the only, despite the design being well received. The Council cited the amount of government contracts being given to Gateway as a key factor, but noted that the Nation was also attempting to cut down on Frigate Production.
Because the Federation only had two vessels, USS Omaha, and USS Milwaukee. President Oherline of Despa temporarily commanded Omaha, and he soon discovered a "soft spot" for the ship. He personally purchased Omaha from the Federation for 1,500 UFP Dollars. Milwaukee, as the last UFP ship of the class, is protected from sale by the 1st Fleet in case the ship design needs to be copied.
After Despa purchased the Omaha, the ban on reverse-engineering was lifted on the Omaha-class, and thus Despa is constructing their own. It is interesting to note that two planes of the Despa Fleet have been named, after Russian Cities.
