The Hornet-class was a class of three minesweepers built for the Federation Navy. They were all named for Aircraft Carriers of the Federation Navy of the past, which were in turn named for insects with stingers.
The names were chosen by Vice-President John B.G. Originally, there were to be five ships of the class, named Hornet, Wasp, Bumblebee, Yellowjacket, and Scorpion, but it was reduced to just three after the announcement of the new Excelsior and Endeavour of the Excelsior-class (an additional Excelsior-class ship is also under construction).
Hornet
The first USS Hornet was an early aircraft carrier of the Federation Navy. It was recently de-commissioned and sold to the People's Navy of North Garfea.
Wasp
The first USS Wasp was built for the UFP by Ethan Hack Industries in the State of Columbus. The ship served for 5 months, and had a distinguished career. She was sunk as a reef after decommissioning. The Second USS Wasp was an Amphibious Assault Carrier built for the UFP but shortly after sold to the People's Navy of North Garfea. She sank in suspicious circumstances, on her maiden voyage. This minesweeper will be the third ship to bear the name.
Yellowjacket
The first USS Yellowjacket was built for the UFP by Ethan Hack Industries in Columbus. The ship served for 3 months. The future minesweeper will be the second vessel to bear the name.
